Please be advised that the above noted website has not been protected and is now available for copyright registration
From what I can tell they are trying to scare domain/site owners into using them to apply for copyright protection.

You don't need it and if you want it anyway, just find the government site and apply yourself. Or search in Yahoo to find a company that can do the work for you, but don't use a spammer...

Not exactly. They wouldn't talk to me because they sent the email to my client. They seem to be trying to scare people so they hire them to provide copyright registration of some kind, and may also offer trademark registration services. I encourage people to report them to their ISP and/or spamcop.net.

Just another spammer preying on those who don't know they can do it themselves.

Yes, you can register copyrights similar to TM's and Patents, except that it's doen through the Library of Congress copyright office. You don't need a third party to do it for you though. It costs about $35-45 to copyright something yourself (a website or photos for example). I'm guessing they want to charge way more than that and are no easier to use than the U.S. Copyright office. You can even do it online now. Actually a copyright is probably easier to file for than a TM.

I know some photographers who register copyrights on their videos or photo collections regularly and it's pretty easy. With one fee you could register the content of a website, a collection of photos, artwork, or a video.
