I find these domains to be pretty rubbish and not worth the money at all...is that because I don't understand their true value or because they are rubbish?

You dont understand their value.
The people who sold those names on the cheap
will be kicking themselves in a few years.
Whenever I approach someone
on Sedo about buying a US domain they want $XX,XXX.
I've turned down offers of thousands of dollars for
US domains that I own. No one but fools are selling
good US names on the on the cheap. A good dot US
name is better then a bad dot com name and $10,000
is nothing to many business' setting up a website.
In a few years owning a good US
domain will be like owning a Picasso.

right,,,,the entire world with the exception of America the first thing comes to mind is their country code so the world except for america uses country codes above and beyond even .com ,,Americans think .com is their country code,,,foreign companies will choose a .US over .com any day of the week when looking to target the US audience,,where foreign companies are familar with country codes and the ONLY way to target LOCAL markets is thru the us of country codes ,,,

Just to put things in perspective, 90% of all existing .COM names are rubbish, things like scratchmyarmpit67.com, gotagogo.com,...et el.

Duke will be doing a story on him but the buyer is holding off until " after his busy season " for the interview ,,,,my guess is until he's done his buying.....

if you think about it what cheaper form of advertising is there 100k in adds is gone the same day printed,

100k is like the money u'd spend on one 5 second tv commercial

heh, it sounds like what he is doing is just registering all these food .us domains, and then going to start a candy empire, and sell a bunch of candy or something

Remember that America is the continent, including North, Central and South America. In most of America (not the US), people also thinks first in their own country extention, them .com or other.

I agree with you about the preference of foreign companies about .us

"right,,,,the entire world with the exception of America the first thing comes to mind is their country code so the world except for america uses country codes above and beyond even .com ,,Americans think .com is their country code,,,foreign companies will choose a .US over .com any day of the week when looking to target the US audience,,where foreign companies are familar with country codes and the ONLY way to target LOCAL markets is thru the us of country codes ,,,"
