Okay, here are the changes as you requested.

I used bright vivid colors since they stand out more.

well i think you might be able to knock sammy off at the last minute :)

are these vector? the design with the globe in the O of the word blog, can you revise that so that there is no shading and please make the colours a little more bright. same with the main logo in revision 1 and is there a better font in your opinion for "earthblog"?

It's not exactly vector format, but I can easily make it AS big as you want. The earth is an SVG which can be edited with Inkscape... Or I can just give you a BIG version (any dimensions you want) and then if you use photoshop to shrink it they will be anti-aliased.

I will make the revisions you asked for, and try some more fonts.

Hey

Sorry for taking so long, I just got my internet connection back up :) Here is another revision, all vector so scalability is not an issue.

JYM,
I see that you are using the globe that is an icon set available for download (in standard and scalable formats) for the Firefox browser. I think the contest holder deserves to know this information as he is paying $70+ for a 100% original design. In addition, copyright infringment may occur by using that specific icon in your work and reselling it as your own. Below is the proof, I do apologize for putting you on the spotlight, but it should be known, and as a designer you know that its not right to claim other designs as your own or use them without permission.

y2k,
To be fair, just thought that you should know that my work is 100% original as all of the designs should be. If you have any concerns, let me know.

Regards,
Sammy

Actually, it's a 100% open source icon from the Tango Desktop Project. Whether it's unique or not, it suits its purpose just fine. PLUS, it's in SVG format and only editable using Inkscape (not adobe illustrator). I think we have two different versions...

Anyway, I won't deny it. I found a great, open source and copyright free image and applied it to make a great looking logo. I think a logo using an existing image, but that looks exceptional, is much better than a unique logo that is of lower quality. Hence, I chose to use a great image of the earth... which is not clipart and is not infringing on any copyrights. A designer's job should be to make a logo that is as good as possible, just as long as it does not infringe on any legal issues. Does it matter whether or not it uses pre-existing images or effects? The visitors that see a logo will look for professionalism and quality, most won't know whether it's been used or not (in this case, as it's an icon... its rarely used in logos). In the end however, it is up to y2k to decide..

Edit: I checked the first post, and the instructiosn were just to make a great looking logo. Never said anything about 100% vector and 100% unique... otherwise I probably wouldn't have made this logo.

Jackie, I read what you said before you edited. Thanks for your support, I didn't think what I was doing was even the slightest bit wrong. I just wanted to make a really nice, professional, and effective logo the best way I could. There's no way I'm going to make an earth as good as that one... and since it IS open source, I was in luck. I wouldn't have minded if anyone else had used that earth first, although I believe few people actually have scalable versions of it.

I'm sure you could make a good globe - there are loads of tutorials out there why not give it a shot? They're really not hard to make, and at least then you can customise them and they would be original artwork, not clip art etc.
