US$70+ logo contest

hello,

i would like to offer a US$70 prize for a "Main" logo for

e-a-r-t-h-b-l-o-g.com

with or without slogan (slogans a bonus $10)

i will also offer US$15 for runner up designs if you wish to sell them. these designs will Only be used on mugs, stickers etc.

i would appreciate a really good job on this one and i would like to finish it by august 15th.

VictoriaAnn, it's not clip art. But, that's besides the point... I see NO flaws in the globe i used, whatsoever. Why would I spend hours making another globe of lesser quality (take note: I'd have to make sure I'm not just copying the globe all over again), when I have a perfectly good one that I can use without copyright infringement?

Sure, some people are very touchy about having 100% unique work, but y2k never mentioned it in the thread (it would be a different story had he done so). I personally think you are just jealous...

Just on a side note, why are you picking on ME?! I know of at least one other design submitted in this contest that used clipart. It's not wrong, since the logo came out great and no one even knew the difference. I have nothing to say to you further.

My 2 humble cents: If someone has an issue with an entry, flag it and let the administrators deal with it. That way: 1. It is dealt with in the proper manner and 2. the thread is kept clean for what it was intended.

Well, it doesn't matter really. It's up to the contest holder to decide what he wants. All he has to do is decide... I never saw what the big deal was. If he didn't like my design he won't choose it.

Sorry I wasn't picking on anyone. It's just nice to be able to draw things yourself and I thought I'd let you know there are many tutorials out there which are really good.

I wanted to make you feel better, as it came across that you didn't think you could make a globe as good as the one you used. I wanted to say that I'm sure you can...I'm sure you are capable. That's all.

Yeah, sure. No harm done. I've actually only started logo designing recently, which is why I'd never be able to make an earth as good as that one... it was open source so I didn't think it was wrong to use.

I just hope next time if a designer has a problem with my work, just private message me or the contest holder. However, as jackieh mentioned before... it's kind of an unprofessional way to attempt to win a contest - by trying to sway the opinion of the judge.

Yeah, maybe next time, the problem is I wanted to let the contest holder know. It is open source, so it is okay, just not original. In my defense, I believe the unprofessionalism is not uding something origianl as your own. But anyways, good luck and let leave this as it is.

Yeah, let's just leave it... if I were a professional logo designer then yes, I would design my own everything. Seeing how I am just starting out however... I thought it would make a nicer logo to use an existing open source pic.

Anyway, congrats on the win Sammy (which isn't announced yet but will be).

ok thanks everyone for participating i really appreciate all your entries.

i am computer illiterate so i dont know whether i should ask for unique designs or vector or trademark free etc etc but i am learning very quickly. whilst i dont encourge people speaking thier mind on other designs, but when it has merit and i learn something i dont mind. i do purposely try to leave it open as possible to get as many creative variations as possible. at the end of the day ill pick the designs i like but as i learn more, things like vector and being 100% original are definately becoming more important in my decision making.
