I would probably call this technique more a 'Web Portal'.

What makes it slick is the expandability and control that it offers. I have one of my personal websites setup this way and instead of the Stock Option, I have replaced it with another option which allows my friends and family a unique access point to a community area...

This could also be expanded to include an affiliate search feature so that you can bring some additional $$$ in...

The options are open.

Well.... it was making money when I had it setup as a pure search engine... was using affilate links along with the smartscripts... but then I changed it to more of a portal and have not yet added the google adsense links or affiliate banners back in, so as of this moment... its not setup to be a revenue generator.....but it should be!

Not sure if you'v discovered yet... the core engine is really the link navigators at the top... I have it the default set so that the news comes up... but one can easily change the top links to be whatever is desired, and then could also change the bottom frame to default to whatever is desired.... to include a first page with appropriate affilate links (as an example)...

I tend to think that this site would be best setup as a "Search Portal".... owing to its name... and the engine currently being used would allow for that.
