Typo - Thank God for research!

I almost bid on the snapnames "normajean.com" auction which takes place today (3rd January.) I am glad I decided to look carefully at the domain name. I had thought this was the original name of Marylyn Monroe and so the site would be good for development. Doh! Her name was spelt Norma Jeane (leaving off the surname). I guess this is a typical typo, but that isn't my business.

Even worse "Norma Jean" is the name of a band, several singers, and a circus elephant. I'd hate to wake up to legal action.

I think most people think MM's name was without the "e". So. I don't know how much it went for, but it would have been a good buy. There are 10 times the number of web pages with "Norma Jean" than "Norma Jeane"

Valuate.com values NormaJean.com @ $17,000 and NormaJeane.com @ $1,800. I think that's a good price for the buyer. I see no reason why the domain should be lost to the band.

This is an interesting debate as this is a critical question for domainers. How do you monetize the domain? If you use google ads they will commonly come up with ads for the band who are high up there in the search rankings. Then the band have you for TM infringement.

Also what bothered me is that when I searched about I found out that fans were clear on the real spelling. So a fan site would not work.

Many parking companies allow you to exclude search terms, but the best for this would be a developed MM fan site, imho.
