I've read all of the criticism about the .Travel extension. So hopefully none of you will feel helplessly compelled to repeat yourselves in the face of a brief report on recent positive developments.

Beginning with the month of August, I have received offers on no less than four different .Travel domains, including a 2300 USD offer on GOLF.travel and a 500+ USD offer on Honolulu.travel, both of which I rejected. Notably, during this same period, I bought CEBU.travel and cebucity.travel from a re-seller for a total of 500 USD.

I welcome and encourage other reports from participants in the developing .Travel secondary market. Thank you.

Ah, to be honest, I would have taken that 2.3k offer if I were you.

Good luck and hope your gamble pays off. :tu:

I'm surprised that there are not more replies to this thread. I have it on good authority that Sedo, for one, has performed numerous .Travel domain transfers. I have the feeling that many sales are going unreported since most of the domains being offered for sale are owned by 2GoMedia, who appear to only sell directly. The offer I referenced earlier on Honolulu.travel is now up to 1250 US. Moreover, over the weekend I made an offer directly to the owner of Manila.Travel to buy his domain. I opened at 1100 US. I never even got the chance to raise, as the owner politely informed me that he had no interest in parting with the site. Finally, I recently learned to my great surprise that in December 2008, Crimea.Travel sold on Sedo for 5000 US. That's a pretty nice bounty for a not so well known region in the Ukraine. If that is not curious enough, can anyone tell me why the domain resolves to Google. Go .Travel

I think .travel has the same issues as other extensions which have nexus requirements.

Last I heard you needed to be registered w/ a local tourist / travel board to even be eligible for .travel

Plus i'm a firm believer in shorter is better (see:Zipf's law) - a six letter tld is a bit much for me tbh.

New offer

Many thanks to those few who have contributed to this thread, including those with divergent views. I wanted to note my receipt today a brand new first time offer of 500 US for Dental.Travel from a private party located in Germany. Dental tourism is a growing sector of the travel market, not unlike medical tourism, but is nonetheless set apart from other procedures commonly performed abroad. Although I am acting on very limited information, I think I can draw some inferences about the current .Travel secondary market. The markets has buyers. I have a handsome portfolio, but I'm not alone in that respect. If I'm getting offers, its safe to say so are others. The problem, however, is converting these holders into sellers. That may take some time as its very difficult for sellers to set prices that offer upward price protection and not run afoul of a potential buyer. It would not surprise me if many non-premium domains are exchanging hands for small sums of the type not typically reported by DnJournal and the like. I'm still hoping that more market participants will help to grow this thread. Thanks again.

Good on you, .travel investors.

The advantage that this extension has above all other extensions is that it has a great KW within the extension. And make no mistake, Google does take this into account with its SERPs.

My dot travel is underway of development for a serious business and will be huge.
It's not minisites or adsense stuff but real travel agent business.
I'll let you know when done.

P.S.: do not post my .travel on forum for privacy reasons, also I'll removed on my sig as soon as will go live.

Dental.travel interest matures into sale

Back in October, I noted relevant interest in my then-domain, Dental.travel. As reported in this week's DN Journal, the domain sold for 2295 US, thereby securing the final position on the Global Contender Top 40 chart. I thought this an appropriate time to update this thread.

How many times have we heard this about about what most would consider to be bad extensions? The rumors of sales and mysterious talk of offers not taken.

In the last 6 months dnjournal has reported 2 .travel sales. Dental.travel for $2,295 and Just.travel $3,150 for. That says it all.

I like the .travel extension...I have only 2 .travel domains: Prices.travel and rates.travel....I think they both fit the ext....could make a lot of subdomains with these 2....

I honestly only heard of this extension a week or so ago. And I'm pretty active in the domains world. This says a lot about the .travel extension.

What's next ? .business, .health
