The only thing with .ws Domains is that they must remain at the place of registration, you cant transfer them out to another registrar but transfering them between accounts works the same as .com etc...

Push within the same registry allowed; transfers not. :yell:
Anyone know why this restrictive policy was implemented in the first place?

I think .tv has the same policy as well

transfer charges within registrar

By the way, is there a transfer charge when you transfer/change the ownership of the .ws domain within the same registrar?

There is no charge with reputable registries.

Here's some good information if it's not currently registered with a Registrar with the "free and easy push" system:
http://website.ws/faq/index.dhtml

I had one (1) at Register..com once, and it was a MASSIVE nightmare (I no longer have any domains at Register/NameBargain.com)! :o

Can I transfer my domain to another registrar?

No. Due to contractual agreements with our registrars it's not currently possible to transfer an existing .WS domain between registrars. Your .WS domain must be administered through the registrar used to originally register the domain.

Does it cost anything to transfer my domain to a new owner?

Yes, the transfer fee is $100. It can be paid by either party, but must be paid online during the transfer.

The $100 transfer fee only applies if you make the mistake of registering the name directly at the .ws registry site (website.ws). GoDaddy and others do not charge it.

So that is the trick.

Is it the same case with dot TV names? Hope not!

I registered quite a few names directly with them last year at $50 p.a.

Thinking of it again, isn't it ridiculous for website.ws to charge $100 for ownership transfer while other registrars are not charging? People are not going to buy from them once they realise that!

If the name was registered with .tv directly you are probably stuck with them.

The whole issue is being unable to transfer .ws and .tv out of your current registrar. I have some very good one word generic names that I really want to keep but the thought of having to pay so much more above market rate to renew it every year at those registrars is very discouraging! Sometimes, I just feel like giving up those investments and look elsewhere!

.ws and .tv are VERY LOW on my list of desirable extensions. I stopped collecting these a while ago

not only .ws. .tv has this rule. I think .name has a similar restriction. It does kind of suck, what happens if you have your domain through a reseller and they decide to jack up the rates?
