Trader Rating Question

I am curious as to what the thoughts are to using trader for NP$ Exchanges.

I personally feel that Trader ratings should only be given for the sale of domains or goods and services. They should not be used when a member purchase's NP$ especially when the transaction is through the Exchange(Bank)

My reasoning is that it degrades the value of the trader rating. You can have a Positive (20) rating and never have sold a domain, product or service.

Any thoughts on this

I don't necessary agree with CH here. While, can see where he is going the NP$ transaction is in escrow so there would be no loss only inconveince

No different than a buyer ditching on a Escrow.com or Afternic transaction. Ultimately the seller is not out anything

For me personally, had a User bailed on someone on an NP$ transaction (as RJ has described), or even like at the other two samples you provided CP, I'd like to know about it before transacting with the person. Even though no one "lost" anything, the information would have relevance to me ... again, going to pattern and business transaction consistencies. To some degree, time is money ... and if there is a possibility of me being inconvenienced, the elimination of the rating system for NP$'s (for cash) would leave me without knowing all of the facts about the User. I'd rather have the full story, than just the best parts.
PS. I did preface this whole thing with "Devil's advocate".

RJ & CH,

If someone repeatedly defaults even on a NP$ transaction, (s)he has gotta be a real naive domainer or a low life bottom feeder. Probably you may have to find a different way to deal with that in NP$ exchange itself. Like preventing such bad apples form using NP$ exchange for xx number of days, etc.

I still think regular trade activities have a lot more relevance to the primary focus (domain name trading) of this forum than these NP$ transactions. NP$ transactions are a side note -if at all significant- when compared to the main focus of this forum. If the domain trader ratings are diluted by such fringe activities of relative miniscule importance (and frequnecy), I think "Trader Rating" will soon lose its relevance. This is something unique at NP, don't dilute it please.

This forum is still evolving, with the single/noise ratio being not as good as it ought to be at times. As this forum matures, however, I have a feeling the ratio of real domain transactions to NP$ transaction is going to improve to a point NP$ transactions would be more or less insignificant, in not outright irrelevant.

So, looking at the long term perspective, it might be a good idea to keep NP$ transactions off the Trader ratings.

just my .2 NP$...

I'm fine with that to be honest. :) As far as I saw it, it was a "trade" thus initially worthy of a trader rating. It wouldnt bother me if CH/RJ wanted to drop my rating by 2 or 3 points for the NP$ exchange I did with the likes of DR.P and a couple of others.

However, I still say we are presently looking at the system as "serious" buyers and sellers. Remember, the whole domain community is not only built upon the serious Cash buyers/sellers for domains. There are probably a fair number of people (close or more than 50% imo) who are doing it for fun and intregue. They have heard about the process of domain selling and buying, and want to get into it.

For this kind of person (myself until recently) NP$ purchases are a superb way of introducing me to a) the community here and b) getting my fingers a little dirty in the business. Last night I placed my first ever backorder on a domain, after looking through various options and finding the best one for my needs. I would say I'm now at a mid point of being serious and having a laugh/experiment. HOWEVER, I DO NOT think this should detract from the rating basis. I still want to know if a trader is reliable, irrlevant whether it was for NP$ or $1000USD.

OOO, heres an option. WHEN the NP$ transaction is done, the system could AUTOMATICALLY add that rating for both buyer and seller, stating that it is a NP$ purchase for cash, or vica versa, thus leaving the present system fairly intact. Obviously, when you look at the trade rating, it would maybe have the NP$ transactions in Blue or green, so they stand out, and the official ratings by users (for services, domain for cash, domain trades or whatever) in another color.

just another thought :)
