Mongolia is becoming hot as a travel destination. Been associated with the travel industry earlier, I know that travellers are increasingly looking for exclusivity while planning the travel destination.

There are roughly 1.5 million sites in Google's index for .mn extn :)

Very good reg. Just that it is not exciting as a domain. Travel.mn, hotels.mn are far premium.

Having said that, the developed site seems to be shaping up nice :)

WOT -> it would be a good idea to have a non-flash menu :) Helps in SEO

Good luck!

As I said -do your research.

Friday, 11 May 2007
Government figures show 385,000 tourists came to Mongolia in 2006, an increase of nearly 14 percent over 2005. Additionally, The Mongolian Department of Tourism is predicting as many as 450,000 tourists will arrive in 2007.

Here is a little info for you, my friend - Tourist Number data:

Nation In Millions
2005 (provisional)

France 76
Spain 55.6
United States 49.4
China 46.8
Italy 36.5
United Kingdom 30
Mexico 21.9
Germany 21.5
Austria 20
Turkey 20.3

(Some people are not very appreciative..... :alien: )

great name!
for an enduser. and by enduser I mean Mongolian government.
I am sure they want tourist numbers to increase, so you should approach, their respective authorities. Or as .mn it could be targeted more on local market, so ask some of the largest travel companies of Mongolia, I am sure in the end you will get at least mid x,xxx
I wouldn't sell that name for less...

Thanks Anthony but:

These are up to date figures

United States — Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007 est.)

Year to date 21,452,813 add monthly av 3 mill total 30,000,000 = 10% of population.

Mongolia — Population: 2,951,786 (July 2007 est.)

2007 estimate 450,000 Around 14% of population

Looks like the percentage per head of population Mongolia beats the US hands down- that's how most countries determine success or not.

Anyway- enough - time to kill this thread :hi:

It does not really matter. It is the total figure that counts, not the % of the population - that is where the money are from. I think I already killed too much time on this thread. It is time to move on :td:

Sorry , have to come in there , you are wrong . It is percentage of GDP that relates to tourism for each country that counts and the USA just ain't in it.

Anyway - nuff said. - move on :)

Again, it is total $$$ that counts. If I am a investor, I will not care about the tourism % to the total population. You may have a country with a population of 2,500,000 for example, and has 500,000 visitors per year. That will account for 20% of the population, but so what? You will get less clicks and ad sponsors than a site for country that has 20 millions visitors per year.

Please do your math.

Wot, you have been ahead of the curve on allot of the ccTLD's. I remember when you were doing really well with the .in & co.in. With this one, I think is not a hit but a miss. I don't think .mn will amount to much or that it will take too long to see a return on your investment. A couple things missed in this thread about Mongolia. Forget about the GDP and population figures. They are behind in many ways. It's ok, not every country is going to be as developed as the Scandinavian nations. From CIA stats:

Internet users: 268,300 (2005)
Telephones - main lines in use: 156,000 (2005)
Telephone system:
general assessment: network is improving with international direct dialing available in many areas
domestic: very low density of about 6 main lines per 100 persons (roughly 25 per 100 persons including cellular mobile phones); there are 3 wireless providers
international: country code - 976; satellite earth stations - 7

With the stats mentioned above it is obvious that Mongolia is a developing nation. There are cities in the US with more phone service and internet connections. Tourism may be huge but if you cannot access a website locally what value does it provide to the outside world? Is tourism a keyword, yes but with this cctld not sure I'm fond of if at this time.

I place the high value at max $xxx.

I'm not worried about your Wot, your a smart guy and I have seen you get some great domains but you can't win them all. I could show you some of mine you would laugh at me too. :) Cheers.

Hey,

No probs with that.

I have a draw full of them (Garbage names), and you should have seen my first efforts at IDN, probably a success rate of only 25%, had to drop an awful lot - huge learning curve. :'(

Thread closed, too much bashing going on. :|

Wot, you've been here long enough to know that this type of behavior isn't acceptable...don't be blind to the facts provided to you just so that you can feel better about your domain -- that's not what the Appraisal section is for.
