DOMAIN NAME: TOURERHYBRID.COM

Hey everyone!
I'm new to this forum, but i love the insight and information I've gained by browsing through the threads. Many of you are great at what you do, and I've managed to learn quite a bit from you guys.
Now more-so to the point.. i finally purchased my first domain name! What i did to choose this name was surf around CNN's business page and look at upcoming technology. What caught my eye was BMW's new Tourer Hybrid that is soon to be released. That really caught my eye, so i went on GoDaddy and checked if the domain name was available and KAZAM, it was. Please let me know if it's valuable or has potential, any type of feedback helps.

again it's TOURERHYBRID.COM

Hello TIB

Keep reading around the site; you'll learn to stay away from any domain that even hints to being a trademark infringement. Of course, you can register and use a domain with a generic word in it, even if that generic word is part of other trademarks... you just can't (legally) use that word if it is obviously infringing on the same use as the TM owner is using.

In your case, tourer is part of multiple trademarks, most of which involve vehicles of some kind, and you've clearly stated that you bought the domain referencing BMW's Tourer model vehicle. So it's a clear infringement based on a BMW product.

Best to ask your registrar to delete this name, and in the future steer clear of any tm-based names, period. You can check trademarks via the USPTO, or go to Trademarkia and search.

Years ago it was practically everyday practice for domainers to deal in TM names; in recent years TM law for domains has become pretty clear, and strong. The smart domainers stay away from TM domains now. You'll still see a lot of stupid ones regging TM names like crazy... but you're just starting out domaining so please don't be one of those; be one of the smart ones. The stupid ones, with multiple and inyourface dealings with TM domains, are making more and more headlines as their asses get sued.

Good luck, hang around and learn more, best domaining wishes

:)

Thank you for your reply, that makes total sense. I should have definitely considered all of those factors when registering this domain name. I will definitely discard it as I am not trying to end up in a sticky lawsuit. Thanks again for your in-depth response.. really helped!

perhaps should do more reading of the posts in the threads than just browsing thru them

newbs are more in a rush to register, than read

they don't know understand that the information is more valuable, than the domain names they are buying.
