Personally I would not pay $5 for this as there the plural version of tonight is poor. Yes it is used in conversation but to build it out and market it would be a lot tougher. The choice is up to you but I would pass.

If your lowball offer is really low, $50 is going to be taken from the seller. That's not acceptable for most sellers. If you can't make a deal privately, then maybe you can get the owner to start an auction based on your initial offer.

Tonights (TV) makes a lot more sense to me than Tonight (TV). I'd start with $100 especially considering it was only registered for one year. You're still going to be forking out $30 - $35yr until you do something with it.

I could understand either the plural or singular version of this domain making sense but, I would estimate for an end-user they are more likely to want the singular (recognizing the plural is an option). Have you thought about an end-user or who you might target for resale?

It is a very relevant name to a generation of youth who live for "tonight" and like to go out "tonight." Listen to contemporary pop music. If you could tag or find one word common in almost all of these club, dance, and party songs, it would be "tonight." That's when everything happens, that's when they want it to happen, etc. I have actually thought about this awhile. This would be a great domain to build off of that excitement and interest. Perhaps you are looking at end-users in music, fashion, pop culture, etc.

If it were me, I would lowball at $100 like Menzl said. Perhaps wait till it's closer to expiration. If you're not committed to marketing and getting rid of it or developing it, that $35 a year really could pile up.

It depends on how badly you want the name. I'd offer to buy it only after it gets renewed.

If you offer $100, the chances of them renewing it go up a lot because that's what people do when people want their domain. You could be dealing with someone who is greedy, wants $500, and renews because you want it. Most domain sellers IMHO are going to try and get every last cent out of you.

Pretty typical response in my opinion. Now that you have their email address, find out how many domains they have. Oh wait, you already know what some of his other .TV's are.

1. Why would it be a mistake? Now you know.
2. They almost always are, especially when you might be buying the rounds.
3. Confused (not really) - See # and bolded area.
4. It's an insight into certain people's sales tactic - See underlined area.

If you're still interested in the name, go back to the seller 3mo / 6mo or more from now and see if their position has changed.

1. I did get in contact eventually with the seller, which might have been a mistake
2. he was very helpful, communicative
3. mentioning that he had plans to develop it himself if he didn't find a buyer willing to pay what he thought it was worth long-term.

It was interesting though, always good to find others who see potential in similar things, turned out he owned quite a few .tv's, like hopkism was saying above, this guy was actually developing this site, and most of his .tv's mostly for music\ pop culture\ youth market, and of course video.

So not a great result, but an interesting insight into the differences in how people go about collecting groups of names for long-term, future development.

oh yeah, no, i know it's naive to take domainers literally, but this guy did actually have creative flare, and it's always harder to negotiate with sellers who have an inkling as to the true worth of a domain, as opposed to someone wanting to make a fast buck, armed with some generic appraisal.

Congrats on contacting him, now he'll definitely renew it and try to get as much money as possible. It's a worthless domain anyways.

Why don't you just get TONIGHTS-TV.COM? It's regfee. Do you actually think tonights.tv will be worth something in the future?

And tell me what an end user would do with tonights.tv?
