Did they put them in auction? Or keep them for themselves. I didn't see them. :'(

I've heard numerous stories about communigal in the past but have not posted them here because they are only heresay and not personal experience. However, considering the multiple sources, they are credible enough to me that I won't do business with that company. Nothing they do would surprise me.

Contacting Neustar about it would be about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike, but perhaps the gov't department responsible for that contract would be interested in a list of .US names swept off the market and held by an overseas registrar...

I know it sounds like sour grapes but it really isn't, if Fonzie or Stu or one of you guys had caught them then good luck to you, and I did get a handful of that list anyway. But the way this is playing out just isn't right when you consider the intent of the .US namespace in the first place. Then again, there's probably a good number of webmasters out there thinking the same about those evil domainers hoarding all the good names, US based or not :)

I have had bad experiences... personally. REALLY bad. And I will NOT deal with them EVER again. Trust me on this one.

I'm sorry to hear that. Can you describe the issues so we know what to watch out for or why to avoid GalComm/Communigal/NamesCatch ? I've never bought any names there, but I set up an account a while back and was stunned at how bad and confusing the interface is.

I'd love to see SnapNames start catching .US as I find their system more fair, transparent, and successful at catching names than any of the others. The down side is that those names tend to cost more because many people don't bother with the small players.

Just to reiterate, I've never actually been successful getting any domains at galcomm/namecatch. I've been surprised to have been outbid every time I've placed a bid for the domain. Two of my bids were substantial amounts that I figured in about 99% of circumstances would have won me the domains. To my surprise, I lost of both of these domains and the whois info still shows galcomm's generic info...

This is not to say that GalComm is conducting nefarious activities. I do not have enough evidence to make a solid conclusion on this, but I'd welcome others to share their experiences. Has anyone actually been successful getting a domain from galcomm/namecatch?

Speaking of drops, now I have another little dilemma - 147 unused backorders at GD. As the drop rate of things GD can actually catch slows down, and GD themselves have a lower success rate than in the past, it's going to take quite a while to work through these, ugh.

It still worked out well overall, picked up some nice .US names (gems, trends, casa, acn, bda, nab, sto, lrs, ajax to name a few), but I sure wish GD used a "credit" system more like Bluehill so the $$ could be put towards renewals later.

I won two of them at auction this past week. I tried paying with credit card, but their system is...well...I've seen better. So I may end up just wiring them the funds.

But if any of you have additional input into this, by all means let me know.

Not just successful at getting a domain from them but getting a really good name since they of course seem interested in the better ones.

I'm not sure exactly how the system works on the auction holders side but if you bid $350 on a name and lose to the auction holder (the company) sponcoring the auction I guess they can go in the system and change the final numbers to what ever they want. They may put the top bid was $10 and they got it for $11 but like I said I'm not familiar enough with it to know if that could or is being done.

Gems was a particularly nice catch -- gems.org just sold on Sedo a couple hours ago for $11,100. The .Org had substantial traffic (~1500 uniques/month) from a gem seller which previously used the domain, but it still makes a great comparison to cite when someone tries to buy your gems.us.

Nab.US is extraordinarily appropriate for you, Lasher :).

Gems.org for 11k is a steal imho. I'm not sure I'd sell gems.us for that. Maybe I'm crazy, but the $$ wouldn't really change my life any so might as well save it for the long term potential, even if it's only a maybe.

Plus, many people here claim to have gems in their portfolio, but only you can state it as an irrefutable fact :).
