Today on this date was the end of World War I, we remember all the men who sacrificed themselves for our Country.

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I wonder when people will stop remembering the people who gave their lives for such a pointless act as war?

True, they gave their lives to protect our country. However, so have many, many other people before them and they are not remembered. In my eyes, we should be looking to the future and not dwelling on the negatives of the past. Why do we only choose to remember our worst parts of history?

Of course, no disrespect to people who fought in the war, they performed a valuable service to their country. However, I think it's time we moved on and concentrated our efforts on the current times and ending other wars that are going on around the world.

People will never stop remembering, theres still veterans from World War I & II alive, will they forget?

Remembrance Day is the mourn people who have died in all wars, not just world wars or anything. We remember the worst part of our history so we do not repeat ourselves. War will go on even if we forget about it.

I'd hardly say one day a year couldn't be spared to remember people who gave their lives. World War I also gave Canada its identity.

My personal thanks to all of the veterans who made what I do today possible! This extends down through the ages and I thank them all because they have made the sacrifice of sacrifices so that I can live my life in freedom. May God Bless them all and although they may fade from memories, they'll never fade from our hearts!

A soldier does not choose his battles.
He signs up to defend the people of his country without question.
For that they deserve our respect and they deserve our rememberance.

You actually have a very valid point ... we have to remember these fools because more will replace them
just like in Iraq and the future wars.

Fortunately these "fools" are there to protect the rights, even the rights of idiots, to say what they please.

A salute to all the soldiers who fight for freedom, democracy and lasting peace and prosperous--things that they strongly believed in.
