To Backorder or not ?

I am interested in a domain this is in redemptionPeriod

its a .com however the domain name itself does not have any value (12+ chars), however the domain/site does have a PR of 4 and some 300 backlinks and a bit of traffic

the reason I am interested in it is because I already have other sites in similar niche (the niche is also very casual one like jokes etc)

now I am unsure that should I use a backorder service or not ? is it possible that no one else is watching the domain and it might be able to get the domain by hand registration once it drops ?( who wants to blow $60 at backorder for no reason! )

since I am new in this field so I am unsure if others would be interested in such a domain
please share your experiences that would such a domain attract interests from others ? and should I place a backorder for it ?

You probably won it outright if SnapNames got it, because you were the only bidder, right? So I think you should be looking forward to getting confirmation from SnapNames within the next 24hrs.

Warning about GoDaddy backorders: GD now allows mutiple backorders on the same domain, so you may end up going to auction anyway. They have also been known to send backordered domains to public auction, using your backorder fee as an opening bid.

That is probably a grandfathered backorder. About a year ago, GD started accepting multiple backorders on new backorders.

Now, even if you backorder a domain, it may go to public auction.

Sounds like somebody was thinking ahead...a whole year for a .tv :lol:

I suspect name.com will adopt the multiple backorder policy as well. An auction system creates more revenue for the catchers!

well, I was not that lucky
there were two more bidders and the domain has now gone to auction

it says that I am 'outbid' however when I open the details than all 3 bidders have bid amount $59.00 .. than why is it showing me as outbid ?

The first person to backorder takes the lead. However this is an unimportant detail. You should focus more on being present during the auction end and making sure to outbid the others if you want the domain more then they do.

You can pay with paypal at snapnames but it s very tricky.

On this page it will let you add funds with paypal for a very limited time window which is few hours after the domain is captured and anytime before they have processed all the credit card payments for all customers.

x .. the option to add papyal funds was disabled but than my CC payment failed and than it allowed me add funds using paypal :lol:

anyway thanks for the help, with your suggestions I have been able to acquire my 1st domain and it looks like a good deal, I have got 100 unique visitors in one day and the site/domain has also earned $2 from adsense

Hi congrats on the name.

I haven't used namejet, but I always put in an order at both Snapnames and Pool and Snapnames are more successful but sometimes Pool do beat them. Godaddy do not beat those two in my experience, but they are so much cheaper they are a nice way to go for a name you think no one wants enough to pay $60 for.

Beware last minute bidders, they know you might stop watching at the end.
