Whats the feeling with this TLD? I picked up a pretty good adult name which if it was .com would be worth a 5 figure sum.

Does is have any real long term value?

Thanks

uk.com has been an extension for about 2 years i think!
i got an offer of $750 for webmaster.uk.com , but i think the more registrars like enom offer it the morek known it comes. Many were conserned uk.com will get bankrupt or something and all domains will be deleted. But its looking very unlikely. Especially when i see they keep ordering new 2 letter names!

I think it will become a better known name in the future.

Technically, something.uk.com is a subdomain, not a TLD, which stands for top-level-domain. Not many are fans of these Centralnic "domains", as they are risky for development, and there's a general feeling among domainers that subdomains like these should not cost the $40 or so they charge, when (real TLD) co.uk domains cost less than $5 per year.

But you must understand that central nic paid quite abit for the domains they purchased, they are trying to get it back via profits :)

Soon i think they will get cheaper! Registerfly seems to be the cheapest for now :)

There is a future for these

I have noticed that these are now becoming a lot
more visible. Recently enom, registerfly and dotster
have all decided to promote these domains.

Sure they are subdomains but they require no plug ins
and work fine as websites and for email. There is virtually
zero risk of the registrant losing the name since centralnic
is selling the right to the subdomain and they need the income
from the registrants to survives. They are very clever
to have acquired so many two letter .coms.

What is better shop.us or shop.us.com shop.net ????

In the long term one ends with .com and the other two do not.

The more registrars they sign up the more visible will become the us.com extension and the public probably does not know the difference. So as
long term investments they might be a good buy.

I see a good future for these domains as long as they have good keywords.

zeeble....you must resist your temptation to indulge in sub-domains!

lol, but these are not subdomains in the same way as the new.net are they? as these do not require a plugin right?

Not the same way, no, but they are the same bad drugs. Just say no, or we are going to send round the men in the white coats! 8-X

thats fine, I would just like to know some more about them.... e.g. why they are not TLD's

They may NOT BE known as TLD's yet, but i think with in this year or next they will be recognised as a form of tld! or cctld!

i can only see a good future for the .uk.com , i checked alot of UK businesses use the names! e.g. game.uk.com (they actually own game.co.uk too!) etc.

Also they are FANTASTIC seo domains!
I would recommend them to all if they chose the right keyword :)

As domain4u said, there are a lot of companies in the uk that use uk.com instead of the more traditional .co.uk. My guess is that it gives them a more uniform approach for their presence in different countries.

Still looks strange when i see it, though!

I think they will take at LEAST another couple of years to get known, if not more....

It would be a waste of money to register one now, and most people see this, and dont reg them, thus the market is pretty much non-existant....

There may be a future for this extension, but i dont see it being bright, sunny, and full of bunny rabbits ;)

I have been looking at the .eu.com for a bit but I am on the fence about whether it will be worth anything down the road.

I would rather wait for .eu instead of getting a .eu.com.
