There are only a handful of pizza enterprises worldwide with 7 figure marketing budgets. One of them may have bought pizza.com, the one and only category defining pizza domain. It is one and only due to the generic keyword, the TLD extension and the huge natural type-in traffic. The dot net traffic and cachet is dwarfed by the dot com. DNSalePrice.com, a reputable source of public sales data, reports the highest dot net sales over the last 3 years as follows: sex 450K, porn 400K, diy 200K, chinese 180K, news 150K and mortgage 149K. Pizza.net at $1.1M is shocking and questionable in light of recent comps and broader financial market trends.

Regarding 1-pizza.com... All of the deep pocket pizza companies have invested large sums building their brands. It is extremely unlikely that one of them would consider rebranding or adding the brand "1-pizza". A 7 figure marketing budget can still buy a portfolio of 2 word generic pizza dot coms that will attract significant traffic. Eight dollars can hand reg 1-pizzapie.com, 1-sausagepizza.com or an infinite number of similar names. 1-pizza's price comp peers are in this hand reg group.

Beyond the actual value perceived by anyone towards 1-pizza.com, I think the main point I get out of this thread is that domainers are beginning to think "outside-the-box" to deem value to a given domain.
I personally don't see the "buzz" or "fuzzy logic" when it comes to 1-pizza.com but as previously said by others, I commend your creativity and reasoning but...well... it's still just a hypen domain to me.

Good luck though.

I must have missed when domains with dashes skyrocketed. I wonder what 1pizza.com is worth without the dash, easily $3M. Regardless, Good Luck.

1pizza.com has just been sold for $500 on Sedo with only 1 bidder in the auction.

Draw your own conclusions about the value of 1-pizza.com :)

My 1st thought is he's a hell of a salesman if he got $500 for a regfee domain.

My 2nd thought is damn he got talked down from $1.4 million to $500, he didn't believe a think he was saying either!!

My 3rd thought is he's a hell of a salesman if he got $500 for a regfee domain.

edit: my 4th thought is I just realized you're talking about 1pizza.com and not 1-pizza.com . So is 1-pizza.com still worth 1.4m?

wow, just saw this thread. Total classic....thought i'd see Jeff on here when i saw the ebay page - the .mobi versions also for sale - then the stream of imho's that would follow..

but seriously, wow, this guy is for real i think. I dont want to cast any dispersions, i really dont. Heck, i've made some shocker decisions and am pretty much a noob to domaining, but wow, this goes beyond comprehension. Yes, amazing salesman, great sales pitch, but damn that is so far fetched its just not funny. Actually, scratch that, it is funny!

The total package went to an asking price of 4.1mil. :talk:

Suffice to say that it didn't sell, but c'mon, there's a reason why 1-<yourdomainhere>.com domains were still available at regfee. Still, who knows, could be a cunning plan to generate traffic and hype through the ludicrousness of it all, in which case the dude's a genius :gl:
