Sorry for the bump... wish yall would comment. THX

The crust thickens - Pizza companies challenged if they didn't buy pizza.com or pizza.net. 1-Pizza.com looks like a phone number, makes sense to humans and a viable marketing solution for mobile internet pizza sales website.

Like Avis vs Hertz, limits field to two players. As such, 1-Pizza.com is the next best domain after pizza.com in a field of 10 top pizza companies.

1-Pizza.com is innovative and as a dot com domain, an excellent transition for mobile surfers to adopt

Interesting Analysis for an Innovative Domain Name as the timing for domain names containing the word pizza is hot!!

1-Pizza.com may be the only domain available that makes sense to humans.

1-Pizza.com vs. Pizza.net - Why 1-Pizza.com is worth more than pizza.net
http://www.numbersthatwork.com/numbers_that_work/1-pizza-vs-pizza.html
Visited your website, and read thru your reasonings etc. on your theory, which is.. as I understand..that the '1-' is pre-branded in people's mind like 1-800Flowers etc., so it turns a domain into a 'number' so to speak. Hence your 1-Pizza.com.

My take is, and of course I don't know where you dial your numbers from, but here on planet earth, no one types in a '-' between numbers. So after typing in these 'number names', as they are familiar in doing now, even though they see 1-800Flowers, they won't include the '-' (because no one does!) and then get wrong sites, or, after spending 2 minutes trying to 'find' the '-', they'll get tired of that process real quick, and won't be back soon to do it again. Sorry, but don't see the viability in your strategy. (though..an 'A-' for at leasting thinking outside the box)

1. Pizza.com
2. Pizza.net

I'd day Pizza.com first and Pizza.net after every other pizza version domain ;). You just can't beat generic!

Come on man, is this a joke. 1.4M for a domain that is barely worth reg fee, good luck on that.

Good stuff from everyone, Thanks! Another point is that we now exist in a world economy for domain names. Domains containing numbers and hyphens are viewed differently in Europe (specifically Germany) and China with higher valuations.

All the pizza talk is interesting and fun stuff. I appreciate people looking in to our site and the viewpoints are good.

If one looks from outside and values innovation, maybe marketing as a transition to mobility with 1-Dash Domains stands a chance.

We think it's a good option and what else can be done if you are in the top 10 of online pizza companies and your competition snagged pizza.com or pizza.net?

You are asking for almost half or what pizza.com sold for, and more than pizza.net sold for. Even if your theory has merit, the asking price is ridiculous. Why are pizza.com and pizza.net worth so much?

Results 1 - 10 of about 193,000,000 for pizza

Value skyrocketed because of sale this month of pizza.com for $2.6M and pizza.net for $1.1M

Sorry, bmugford my post is redundant. I'd delete it if I could, you were asking how companies could justify the expense. I've seen that debated elsewhere and it comes down to web presence, pride and marketing bravado...

I must have missed when domains with dashes skyrocketed. I wonder what 1pizza.com is worth without the dash, easily $3M. Regardless, Good Luck.

A person would have to be ouch of touch with reality to think 1-pizza.com is worth anything remotely close to 1.4 million. That is just too funny. We already did the April 1st thing this year so I'm guessing this is not intended as a joke. Which just makes it all the more funny.

LOL... reality is that if a pizza company needs to compete, didn't get pizza.com or pizza.net and wants to give users an easy shortcut to their longhardtotypepizza.com website
1-Pizza.com is a viable option.

Looking like a phone number gives 1-Pizza.com a memory hook too

We aren't trying to push buttons here; just opening some discussion...

Practical application example:
If mobile content was being pushed to visitors, I would prefer 1-Home.com to homeforeclosures.biz

Last I checked 1-Home.com was taken and 1-Home.mobi was available...
(1-Home.com is definitely worth holding and someone besides us figured it out)

It depends on need and if home.com is owned by your competition few good options remain without 'Thinking Outside the Pizza.com Box."

Again no one is really disputing your 'it's an option' POV. Of course it's an option, and so is iHomes, i-Homes, eHomes, e-Homes, 4Homes, 4-Homes, myHomes, etc, etc, etc...

But to think, believe, and actually expect, someone will pay $1.4mil for it, really just shows (and not pushing any buttons here, just 'discussion'), an ebay type of mentality and naivete towards domain values, branding expenses, and user familiarity because, again, no one keys in the '-' when they see a 1-800 type of number. They automatically dismiss it. If you were to get $10K for it, it would be because you actually wrote out a 'theory of it's associated rememberability' that just may make some sense (at the time) to someone.

Again for your creativity, work and planning - commendable. But price-wise for what you're asking... that is just a 'pipe' dream!
