Hello I just recently taught myself adobe illustrator this week, (I know all the other adobe products so it wasn't too crazy) And I want to know what you guys think.

I wanted to go with one of the weird icons that are abstract.

Please let me know if you think it works, or if it should be more directly related.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I for one, don't go with the arguments of these logos for domain sales. A buyer of a domain is not going to buy a domain because he likes the logo. He's buying a domain because he likes the domain name. Perhaps I don't have any evidence to support that theory, but it makes just logical sense to me. Some argue that it might trigger ideas. But on the whole a buyer of a domain already has his ideas already quite well established when they buy a domain. So all these logos are just eye-candy. IMHO.

I liked you logo although I don't see the relevance to the domain. But that's ok. Since it's all just eye-candy. It's a good first effort. If you want my opinion.

Thank you. And yea, nothing more then eye candy. - Its like when you buy the newest Macbook Pro whatever. You know what the phone does. But they still take extra care in packaging your product super overthe top like.

Hi,

I'm also thinking of learning Illustrator myself. Are you looking to set up marketplace or portfolio site?

I don't mind logos if they are presented professionally as they can be used to cast a vision and as Stub says, eye candy..

IMO, It can pass because it's abstract but it's not ideal..

Sometimes I think the direct root works better(using a design that relates more to the name even abstract)...

The design could also work for helloworld.com, politicalnews.com, mooncabin.com... etc.. so it doesn't add too much value to the name or cast any vision.

I would ask why the three biggest sellers of Aftermarket Domain Names, GoDaddy, Sedo, Afternic have not introduced logos into their offerings. Answer: Because it is surplus to requirements when selling a domain.

Sure but lets talk about another huge one? Brandbucket, or here for instance

BrandBucket is a bit player in Domain Aftermarket. Mostly. Whenever I go to BrandBucket, it annoys me to see all the logos. They get in the way. But I'm a domainer, not an end-user. Maybe they see things differently. As for NamePros, I usually see any logo as pitiful. But it might actually get the domain noticed and sold for an additional $10.

I don't think logos are necessary, but those companies are established and not exactly focused on any particular niche. Marketplaces that thrive on logos.. are sometimes using brandables and made up names that are focused on startups. A buyer don't always know exactly the name they want.. they go and type in a keyword to search.. and the logo can literally bring a word to life. Some of those words I wouldn't even blink at if i saw them in Godaddy marketplace.. they may even be in the bargain section.

It's impossible to discount the power of imagery..Because these brandable marketplaces thrive on creativity, they cant just throw a list of words on a page. The logo and a small description ads value and cast a vision IMO.

I do agree with that. But it doesn't work for me :)
