The quickest way to get listed by search engines?

I'm launching a new business and i really don't want to wait weeks if not months to get listed by search engines, what would the big firms do to get listed straight away? If that involves lots of money, what tricks are there to speed up the process?

I would recommend you get as many links as possible from other sites that have previously been spidered by these search engines. I suppose you can do this by joining a link exchange.

cPanel is a control panel system for web hosting clients. I think their website is www.cpanel.net - it's used by a majority of the hosts these days.

Let me give some suggestions on this

Without investing $

1) Create a perfect meta tag with some very good keywords relating to your website content.Dont fill in too much of keywords.To become a robot friendly website you are advised not to exceed more than 20 keywords.

2) Submit your site to all the major search engines manually.Dont use automated services as we cant say whether their submission is properly accepted by search engines or not.

3) Have a links page in your website and start exchanging links with other websites related to your industry.But never keep the page name as links.htm,links.php etc.This is because Google hates the word "link" or "links" and it will not crawl your links page then.Make sure you exchange links only with the website having a Google page rank more than 4.This is beause , if suppose we exchange links with site lesser than PR 4 our website's PR will also not cross 4.

To check a site's Google PR, either download the google toolbar from google.com or go to

here you can check your current PR as well as your future PR.

Now ideas to invest $

Use Google Adwords program - http://www.google.com/ads
Use Yahoo Overture sitematch - http://www.overture.com

when you invest more and more in these programs, you website's popularity will also become more and more VERY SOON.

Meta tags are ignored by every major search engine these days. And then there are only 3 or 4 search engines that even matter and one towers above all others (take a guess which )

The number one way to get listed and then get good rank is to get links from high ranked sites. Don't even bother if they are below PR4 unless you plan on collecting thousands of links. You've got to ask, beg or buy links if you are in a competitive market.

I never said Meta tags will give a top 10 position.Since he is starting a new website, i just gave him a professional starting advice.Yes major search engines will not use a site's meta tag for ranking purpose these days, but having a meta tag is not at all a disadvantage because the search engines use the meta tags to give a short description of our site.

Also i take Google PR very seriously and through my experience i will not advice to link to sites having less than PR4.Its up to you to decide

Why not add the website address to your profile, so that the link appears at the end of every post you make for search engines to pick up?

:lol: I did that over at SitePoint. They have a lot of indexed pages, and when I was active, I had a PR5.

I bet Googlebot will visit your site soonafter its live. Even manually submitting at Google won't make Googlebot arrive faster. Just put it up and watch your logs.

I just want to clarify a few things here:

Yahoo uses meta tags and they do own some market share.
so I would add meta tags even if the majority engines dont use them. It takes about 1 min anyway. Not to mention if someone releases a new engine (microsoft? or anyone) and they use meta tags youre going to have to go back and change everything if you want any of their customers.

If you're just starting out, your going to have a PR 0. I would suggest linking up with everyone to increase your PR. If you have a PR0 and and only want to link to people with PR4+, I surely wouldnt link with you just for saying that.
Later after you build up your PR, you can change your methods.

All links have value. PR0 still transfers some PR.
Yahoo love links!! All links!! Lots of links (if done properly) =
high rankings. Now google is another story..PR4 + will only work their so you'll have to make some selective decisions when you want their market share. My point is by the time you're looking the net for PR4 you could have already have <pr3's and have top positions in Yahoo because you have more links. If you just keep building links the positions for yahoo and google will come.
You can have a PR10 link from google (for example) and be #1 for a certain keyword (only if your links is right) and be NO Where on Yahoo. Because you only have a one link.. which doesnt mean much at Yahoo.

PR alone means pretty much nothing. If you're just looking to increase your PR that is all you'll get - is PR. Sure it looks pretty.. You really have to know how to use it with links or its a waste of time.

Having a page named "links.html" means nothing. You wont be penalized for this unless you abuse the system.


Like i said all links have PR so you can increase over a PR4 with only lower PR4 links.


You cant buy your way into googles search results. Buying advertising doesnt not increase your positions or popularity.
