Experts said the slow digestive system of cows makes them a key producer of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that gets far less public attention than carbon dioxide.

In a bid to understand the impact of the wind produced by cows on global warming, scientists collected gas from their stomachs in plastic tanks attached to their backs.

The Argentine researchers discovered methane from cows accounts for more than 30 per cent of the country's total greenhouse emissions.

Now if they could convert that into a fuel source, we'd be getting somewhere!

:hehe:

Maybe we could feed them meat, some puppies or something, that might produce less methane. Well, no not puppies, some less lovable animals, something ugly that we have too many of, like cats.

( RW ducks out the back way )

I think cows eat grass lol

Don't be so sure.. hide yer puppies:

Dairymen on the Didsbury Jersey farms at Didsbury, Alberta, last week argued that it was a meat diet which caused one of their cows, Waikiki Xenia's Fanny, to produce almost pure cream.

WHEN dozens of chickens went missing from a remote West Bengal village, everyone blamed the neighbourhood dogs.

But Ajit Ghosh, the owner of the missing chickens, eventually solved the puzzle when he caught his cow - a sacred animal for the Hindu family - gobbling up several of them at night.

"We were shocked to see our calf eating chickens alive," Mr Ghosh said by phone from Chandpur village, about 240km northwest of the capital Calcutta.

The family decided to stand guard on Tuesday at the cow shed which also served as a hen coop, after 48 chickens went missing in a month.

"Instead of the dogs, we watched in horror as the calf, whom we had fondly named Lal, sneak to the coop and grab the little ones with the precision of a jungle cat," Gour Ghosh, his brother, said.

Local television pictures showed the cow grabbing and eating a chicken in seconds and a vet confirmed the case.

everyone should have a cow.. just like in the good old days.

i was thinking.. instead of using the methane from the tank to power some kind of kart.. why not strap roller-skates to the cows feet, poke a small hole in the back of the tank then light it...

could get interesting x=]

I hear human trials of this device start next month in Washington. Sadly, all available slots have been preassigned to politicians. The goal is to see who provides the most BS: democrats or republicans. :p

hmmm Red gas vs Blue gas .......

I think if we could at least hook up to the lazy boy chair and fill our grill tanks that would save always running my BBQ tanks empty at the wrong time. D-:
