Leave it to me..

Took a cup of hot water out of the microwave and dumped a teaspoon full of instant coffee crystals into the cup causing it to explode frothy, scalding hot coffee all over the counter top and my hand. Burned the +***+ out of my hand. Next time, I'll put on the flame-retardant suit before making the morning coffee.

I may be wrong but don't the instructions for use say to add water to the coffee and not the other way around?

 Guess I never thought I'd need instructions for instant coffee.. seems to me I'd always done it that way with no problems. It just says "Add boiling water, stir." Maybe they need a Warning Label!

:)

ha you could sue them for not saying "do not add the coffee granules to water you have just microwaved"! you'd be rich and wouldnt have to do anything! (like how a woman microwaved her pet poodle and sued...)

David-

As the self proclaimed "Coffee Guy" of NP I would have to say your first problem is using instant coffee. The taste of that crap could cause you more damage than any amount of scalding hot water. :imho: If you must go with something "fast" I would suggest something like Senseo. It's quick, tastes OK and the coffee comes in pods, so very little clean up. Best of all, it would not require a fire suit. :D

Actually, I rarely drink coffee these days and when I do, I usually use Folger's Coffee Singles... seeing as I drink so little of it, no sense having a coffee maker.

As for the coffee crystals, they're actually 2 year old, bottom of the jar, leftovers.

It's been nice knowing you David. If you live through this, you should start a new blog.

Agreed, very few instants are any good.
Been using filter coffee lately, and sometimes add in an amaretto coffee mixture.
Great first thing, actually anytime. :)

Now there's an idea.. I'll need to wait for the blisters to heal.

Now, who remembers good ol' Juan Valdez? Wonder how he and the burro are doing? (As if that wasn't too stereotypical!)

Also David, if you are gonna use instant what's wrong with the kettle?
Microwaves can superheat stuff so can be quite dangerous. See here.

Since purchasing my Jura Capresso S7 I have not suffered a single coffee-related injury. Except occasional heart palpitations from acute over-consumption. D-: My wife gets mad when I refer to it as my mistress. She just doesn't understand...

This reminds me that my gf was making me a cup of coffee a while back. Our microwave
timer doesn't go forward anymore, just backwards. We usually just set it for 95 mins and
then stop it after 1. Unfortunately she forgot about it and cooked the coffee cup for 20 mins.
There was no mug when the microwave door opened, it had shattered and turned my coffee
into steam.
That was supersupersuperheated coffee! :(
