Below is a reply to what is now the forth email by an asian company informing me of their intentions to register the same name i own (iloveapplications.com) in either .cn or .asia extension. Whilst this name is listed for sale i am not desperate to sell and they were the ones who contacted me. I have tried to explain the benefits of purchasing the .com version but it seems they are more concerned with infringing on my 'space' As you can read i am basically happy to thank them at this point .....for the traffic leakage i can look forwards to

Email Reply Below ::

Dear John

Excuse me for being blunt , i really dont care if you have someone who wishes to register the equivalent name in another extension, it actually helps my site, as .com is the standard of the internet, i have previously supplied a link to purchase the .com version via sedo.com. If they dont take that option i don't care .........it helps me ...... (more traffic)

I have absolutely no probelm in someone else registering the same name in another extension ............ it helps me, repeat ::: it helps me

Sorry to be even blunter but if they had a half a brain they would spend the $2,999 and buy the name from sedo.com (trusted marketplace)

The money saved on marketing alone would justify the purchase !

But i guess they do not see their version of this brand becoming world wide ??????

Truly at this point we all know .com is the world standard and if people do not wish to spend a reasonable amount on a premium name there is not much i can do

other than to say 'good luck with that?'

So John i am not sure how you fit into this but i can only say if you are advising these people they really need to think about where they plan to take their business now

and in the future .....asia or the whole world .....their choice i guess

Just think all their work will result in leakage to my site .......crazy in my mind when i am offering a reasonable option for them to secure the industry standard

Ok i really do appreciate that both yourself and Lin have taken the time to tell me of your intentions, yet i feel it would be unfair of me not to inform the best option is

actually available to enhance the prospects of 'iloveapplicaptions' above all other extensions.

You see it only adds to confusion when there are numerous versions of the same name and as a result most folk will type in the .com version ..........even in asia

I wish you all the best with your venture, you have done everything correctly to this point other than to buy the .com version / industry standard

All the best

Regards

Rod

Is this your actual domain, or is this just a hypothetical example ?

Who is going to be a jerk and register the .cn and .asia before they do?

those people are just spammers trying to get you to buy other extentions from them.

As the browsers are becoming more and more advanced, the type in traffic will continue to decline. I would not be surprised if the type in traffic become 0 in the coming years and for this particular reason .com will loose its standard. IMHO

(This is just my opinion!!)

i'm not sure about .cn but if it were .ru your would have 0 (zero) type-in traffic from Russia and would be of no interest to .ru version owner of your "golden standard" .com...

.com is The Standard only in the US - and it's not too much if you consider China, India, Russia, Brasil etc internet usage/growth.

i'm pretty sure they know what they're doing - they simply do NOT need your .com. it has no value in China. there will be no leakage of traffic to your .com - no folks in China/Asia would ever type-in .com

it's probably time to reconsider "golden standards" when you deal with non-US customers...

Exactly. And the spammers are registrars.

Yup, It's not worth replying to them. I've seen those in the past as well.

I think in the emails I got, they "feel it would only be fair" to offer the names to me first before they register them.

It's all just BS and shady marketing tactics.

Well if they are spammers they are quite consistant as i have told them four times i don't care if someone regs the same name as mine, i guess they can try their luck but seesm like a lot of effort for no return

that appears to be the actual domain.

evirtual1, no offense meant, but that appears to be the crappiest domainer communication I've ever seen... It comes across as arrogant, scatterbrained and unprofessional. You might want to work on that.

Extension doesn't matter much anymore. So what if there is leakage. Most people who visit parked pages or spammy survey pages leave right away. If they actually put money into the site google will reward them with rank 1. That's all that matters today.

They don't need a .com to make their site successful. They only need a viable product.
