Last year, we reported the news that the domain name Heart.com had been sold to a DNStination Inc client in a deal brokered by Media Options. This incredible one-word .COM was owned by BluCora Inc, a NASDAQ listed company that has worked with Media Options to sell many of their domain names.
Up until recently, Heart.com’s WHOIS has listed a generic DNStination Inc email address as the registered owner, obscuring the actual owner’s identity. Now however, the details have changed to show that the owner of Heart.com is iHeartMedia.
iHeartMedia is a Texas-based mass media company that owns a plethora of media outlets over a number of different mediums including radio, TV and online. This multi-billion dollar company is perhaps most famous for its streaming service, iHeartRadio. iHeartRadio is a free radio and digital music streaming service that gives users access to thousands of radio stations and a catalogue of more than twenty-four million songs. That service currently runs on the domain name iHeart.com, so it is possible that Heart.com may be used there in some way.
Although the WHOIS has updated, the domain name still doesn’t resolve to a website, so at this point in time we can only speculate as to what iHeartMedia’s plans are for the domain. Whatever the name is used for, it will rank as one of the best domain names in iHeartMedia’s portfolio of over 7,700 other names.
Since iHeartMedia is a publicly listed company, it’s possibly that the domain name sale may feature in one of their future SEC filings, so it is possible that we may discover the actual sales price at some point in the future. As we reported at the time of the sale, the domain was previously advertised in the Media Options newsletter with an asking price of $499,000.
What do you think iHeartMedia will use Heart.com for?
