Those 200+ NNN.us which were redeemed have apparently been listed as $150 buy-it-now on TDNam. We're talking 20% of the entire NNN space currently available to buy (more than that when you exclude the reserved numbers). I picked up my telephone area code .us, and then bought a few other nice ones as well. Here are the 200 numbers still available for instant $150 purchase when I checked a few hours ago:

OK. Let me ask the next question which is just out of curiousity. What would happen to the names if Neustar deleted them? Would they go through a drop process or would they be available for registration?

I still see them. Are you searching only by expired name auctions?

I'm still not willing to touch these domains. The whois implies the domains aren't compliant with the nexus agreement and rumor has it that Neustar is looking into these domains. Caveat emptor---buyer beware.
I don't see much risk here. I can understand others being cautious, but to me there isn't an issue.

Several different search variables. Can you post or pm a link?

Domains would go through normal drop procedure--not through TDNAM.

Well how far do you take "compliance"? Technically, every name parked at Namedrive is not compliant with .US nexus requirements either - their nameservers are in Canada.

Where a name is hosted is not a necessary condition of "nexus", no?

I could have sworn I'd read in the past that .US domains were supposed to be on nameservers located in the US (not necessarily hosted, just the DNS).

Can't find anything about it on Neustar's site now though, so I'll withdraw the comment. My bad...

Clarifications

Hi there,

yes, a requirement was that the Nameservers for your .us domains are located in the US. I don't know if Neustar changed that requirement.

As to the speculations about a review of my domains by Neustar:

During the past 6 years I have never been contacted by Neustar. I have checked the Nexus status of each of my domains and made corrections to those which have accidentally been not correct. I can not explain why, but for some reason some domains have had a Nexus status different from what I have chosen, based on my legal status.

As to my company which is incorporated in Delaware: The company is in "good standing" thanks to my representative "The Company Corporation".

I don't see any problems and can't understand why somebody spreads rumors ... All transactions went perfect until now! I don't believe you risk anything if you buy one of my nnn.us domains.

If you have any question, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Best regards,

Ives

I know why.

The sky is falling.

Just read the nexus requirements and decide for yourself (no server requirements): http://www.neustar.us/policies/docs/ustld_nexus_requirements.pdf

Psst...I heard that Webster is filing suit against Network Solutions. They are claiming that it is unlawful for .coms to contain dictionary words because it infringes upon Webster's long established dictionary business.

News Flash: Network Solutions is about to announce that they are going to delete all dictionary .coms. Anyone wanting to sell their dictionary .coms before this happens please PM me. I'll give you reg fee for them.

UPDATE: The Department of Homeland Security is secretly planning to put all dictionary .com registrants under surveillance because they believe that the government of Mexico is planning to buy them up and use ICANN's policies and procedures and past UDRP decisions to claim TM rights in all English words so American's won't be allowed to speak English anymore.

After purchasing 6 of these names, 4 via TDNAM and 2 from Ives privately, I decided to email Neustrar myself and go "on record" as being a compliant owner of the domains.

What I got back from them is:

Derek,

Just fax us a copy of the picture page of your passport. If you do not have a passport, copies of your driver's license and birth certificate should suffice.

Our fax number is: 1-571-434-5758.

Lasher,

What is the contact email or phone number of the person at Neustar? I just received an email myself from Neustar stating that certain domains are now under review.

Nexus Review initiated by Neustar

Hi there,

After I updated the Nexus status of some of my domains it seems as I have been chosen by their system for a Nexus qualification review.

Neustar sent me an email this morning (copy of the email below) asking for documents.

I already answered them and sent them all information they need to confirm that my company does qualify under:

Category 2 - You are a US business or organization.

I'll keep you all updated and will post all communication with Neustar here as soon as I here from them!

You can also call Neustar at http://www.neustar.us/about_us/contact.html,and send them "a passport, copies of your driver's license and birth certificate" as another buyer already did as I just found out:

http://www.namepros.com/333429-200-nnn-us-tdnam-now-buy-2.html

Thank you!

Best regards,

Ives

Dear Ives,

As you may be aware, in November 2001, the United States Department of Commerce ("DOC") selected NeuStar, Inc. ("NeuStar") to be the Administrator of the .US top-level domain ("usTLD"), the official top-level domain for the United States of America. As Administrator of the usTLD, NeuStar has agreed to perform random "spot checks" on registrations in the usTLD to endure that they comply with the usTLD Nexus Requirements which can be found at http://www.neustar.us/policies/docs/ustld_nexus_requirements.pdf ("Nexus Requirements").

On June 4, 2007, these domain names were selected for Nexus revalidation and confirmation. According to the information you provided with your registration of these Domain Names, you indicated that you qualify under:

Category 2 - You are a US business or organization.

As part of our verification process, we ask that you provide to us by no later than ten (10) days after the date set forth above, a written response describing how you qualify under the above Nexus category.

In addition, please verify that the name-servers that you have selected to use are also physically located within the United States as required by the Nexus Requirements.

In some instances, we may request additional documentary evidence from you to demonstrate that you meet the Nexus requirements.

You should be aware that if you either (i) do not respond within the ten (10) days, or (ii) are unable to adequately explain or demonstrate through documentary evidence that you meet any of the Nexus Requirements, NeuStar may issue a finding that your entity or organization has failed to meet the Nexus Requirements. Upon such a finding, you will then be given a total of ten (10) days to cure the US Nexus deficiency. If you are able to demonstrate within ten (10) days that your entity or organization has remedied such deficiency, you will be allowed to keep the domain name. If, however, you either (i) do not respond within the ten (10) days of such a finding of noncompliance, or (ii) are unable to proffer evidence demonstration compliance with the Nexus Requirements, the domain name registration will be deleted from the registry database without refund, and the domain name will be placed into the list of available domain names.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Kind Regards
Andrea

I just used [email protected] - however I just received the same email from GD that Ives did, which is in this thread:

http://www.namepros.com/dot-us/335355-nexus-review-initiated-by-neustar.html

Looks like I was lucky to content them proactively. As for 'rumor has it', would that be 'rumor has it' as in 'I emailed them?'. Someone did, too much coincidence here.

Update from Neustar, I wanted to see if I could just list all my domains in one hit and be considered done:

You can include a list of all your .US domain names, so that any current and future challenges of your right to .US registrations will be resolved with reference to the documents on record. Please be sure to indicate on your paperwork all the registrant email addresses appearing for all your domains. This will reduce chances of your being contacted again for Nexus verification.

Of course someone else contacted them. It appears some people were simply not going to let this one go.

Has anyone who bought one of these domains recieved a compliance email?

I haven't, but I am compliant so I guess it wouldn't be a huge deal if I did, just kinda annoying.

I suspect the same. Particularly when people were saying things like "rumor has it that Neustar is looking into these domains" before Ives had even heard anything from Neustar. But it is also possible that Neustar just read this thread and wanted to be proactive. Neustar does read NP, as they have responded to other posts here. Only the name I bought from Ives yesterday was on the review list. The other 5 were already in my name and Neustar didn't email me.

In the end this may actually be a good thing. Ives seems to have his act together, and I suspect he will pass their review promptly. That should alleviate any lingering concerns about these domains once and for all.

It wasn't me. I just notifed people what I've heard. I don't want innocent people to lose money or their domains. If Ives is indeed nexus compliant, and based on what he has said, he is, things will all iron out.

All fine...

Hi,

maybe it was really just because of my bulk update, who knows. Now that Neustar has officially confirmed that all is fine I hope those who have been cautious will take their chance and buy their local area code as a domain name in ".us".

Thank you all very much for your open and direct communication!

Ives

Glad to hear that things are all in order. Ives, can you please post the remaining domains that you have available? Also, can you post the confirmation email from Neustar stating everything is A-okay?

These names are a no-lose investment imho...

As for the scare mongering about nexus, these guys are neck and neck with EURid in the "most incompetent central registry" stakes, so fear not fellow domainers they wouldnt cancel your registration even if you couldnt point out the US on a plastic globe.
