Closed on testing.com today! What do you think this package is worth (all dot coms) collectively, meaning as a package together? Do you think the are more valuable together, or individually? These are the "main" names of a niche portfolio I've put together.

Testing
Inspection
PreShipment (as in Pre-Shipment Inspection)
Verification (in escrow)
Assurance
QualityControl
QualityAssurance (under contract)
QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental)
HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environmental)
QAQC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control)

Again, these are all correctly spelled, dot com names. They are the principal marquise names in a portfolio of about 125 related names.

Any thoughts?

THANKS!

Depends. In my experience, which is not so extense, i tend to see that the big ass companies marketeers are inclined to concentrate their efforts in one and only aspect AKA domain (if the company is not MultiMillionarie, then u coul be on luck for the pack!) and promoting with strong developing one single indentity in the net.

Now, that s my observation. Your point of view is as well totally valid.

Anyway, it's sure thing that you will score some high numbers, so don't be worry if you cannot sell the pack in one time, keeping some of the names could bring you more profit.

Lucky you!

Good viewpoint. The target companies already have highly recognized trademarks, brands and images. The acquisition of these names would not be to create a new image or re-brand, but rather to drive potential customers to already existing brands. Kind of like Levis.com owning jeans.com, bluejeans.com, denimjeans.com, etc., or Coke owning cola.com, sodapop.com, etc., or PaylessShoes.com owning pumps.com, boots.com, sandals.com, highheels.com, shoes.com, etc. I'm not saying any of these companies currently own these, just using them as examples. CalvinKlein.com DOES own bras.com and underwear.com, which is an excellent example of what I was thinking as I did this.

Thanks again to all!

Thanks for all the replies! I'm surprised on the consensus to sell individually. As I assembled this portfolio over a period of 5 plus years, I did so thinking that the "collective" value of the portfolio would be the biggest attibute of the portfolio. That the fact one owned "testing" for example would complement and therefore increase the value of "inspection" and so forth for the other names. What drove my thinking was that there are companies out there that offer all of these services.

Thanks again to all!
OK, I would like to make some points:

A person looking for one domain would probably give their top amount for the domain they want and you would not necessarily get as much as you could for the others. I may be wrong but end users would probably want one good domain over several good domains.

The highlighted part is a great example of a problem I would see. After some quick thought I think that Testing.com would probably make the most in the health care market in which the inspection would be less valuable than examination.com.

Selling them as a package would limit the number of people who could afford your portfolio increasing the power of those that could afford it in negotiations.

Selling them individually would still allow an interested party to buy other domains but you would be able to negotiate terms more in your favor or simply pull a domain from the offer if you wish.

I see your point, but my gut tells me that more and more companies are going to complement and supplement their top names with strong generics and periphery names to drive traffic to their main product and brand sites. I again use the example of bras.com and underwear.com owned by CK. I also point out that GE has fifteen thousand domain names for such a strategy. I could name other large companies that have adopted this as well.

In that scenario, for healthcare, it would seem that examination.com or even test.com would be more suited, but I'm aiming at industrial testing and inspection companies where the words are well grounded.

You are correct, I wouldn't target these names at companies without a nice budget or ability to make an allocation for a large purchase like this. If you have automobiles.com for sale, you'd target GE, Ford, MB, Chrysler, etc., not ABC Used Car Sales. The fact that there would be a small audience would in fact empower them to some degree in negotiations, but the small audience would also increase the competition to have the names. The companies I plan to target have huge turnovers annually. My main target turns over $4B per year with over $500M in profits and $500M cash on hand (from their public annual report).

Agree with you here too, but what I've tried to do is acquire the "other" possible domains they might be interested in! Supposing they want inspection(dot)com but we can't come to an agreement and they move on to verification(dot)com. Well, I own it too. So they move on to testing(dot)com. Again, I own it too. That's why though I believe individual sales are a great possibility, I also believe that the package may be the right way to go with these really big and competetive companies.

If i would have to make this kind of sale, wmloz, i would want a "professional" opinion for sure, with this i mean, I would contact with the best domain auctionsites before making a decision.

We are talking about serious domains there, please let us know what are the results of the sale, if that is ok with you of course.

over a million for the lot

I would say over a million for testing[.]com alone.

Now, another wierd idea from yesterday night's wet dream: Can a domain be rented instead of sold?

Would be great leasing your names under contract for 5-10 years and get monthly/yearly payment and still own the domain?

For me it sounds awesome, of course, it would have to be very premium names, like he ones our friend wmloz has.

Dont know about if it s allowed or not tho (legally).

Well I cant see why it should be illegal?, but the owner of the domain is always liable for the domain, so you need to have a good contract with the person leasing your domain, so you dont end up paying for some illegal thing they are doing with your domain.

But actually I have thought about this in a long time, but as you mention you need very premium names. And those I dont have, and probably never will :)

Leasing, though I believe legal as I've seen sites that lease domains, is really not what I'd like to do. I'd like to cash these chips in and then continue work on another portfolio I've already started for another niche industry.

Thanks again for all the replies!

Three largest Testing & Inspection Companies

SGS $4.25 BN annual turnover
Bureau Veritas $3.25 BN
Intertek $1.8 BN

These would be some good target companies don't you think?

Absolutly, do you plan on taking the negotiation in private or public auction after making the domain portfolio presentation to those companies?
