We can hope it's a real bid. BTW, I fixed your thread title. It said Taxi.us $35. I'd buy it in flash for $35!

I hope so too.

It's not just a great sale. It will be one of the top (5) .US sales. :tu:

Uh-huh

The auction has only one bid.

On a completely unrelated note, give me a minute before you check another domain, but I think menostupid.name just might be at aution now with a bid already in at $800,000.

Look, you guys here at NP are great, so I tell you what I'll do. I think I can convince the seller to cancel the .name auction and offer it to the first person to post "menostupid." You can have it for 99% off. And go . . .

I just heard back from the seller. It's a go, and he said that he has friends who have friends who know some people who know some people, and the winning bidder for the .name will get invited to the Whitehouse to meet the next president if he should happen to get elected to a third term. And go . . .

By the way, if you think that the .us is worth a lot of money now, then I have 46 of them over at the cctld forum. The first person to visit my post there and post "FREEBIE" can have any one, and I mean just one, of the listed domains for free. Winner must be nexus compliant. Please be sure to include the one domain name you want as a freebie.

Long story short, You don't think taxi.us worth (able to fetch) $35k ? :)

I am biased here. I like the .us; but I am in the minority. That said, the .us has a long way to go before it can command that kind of an opening bid at auction.

If you think that it can then I can shoot you over a list of pretty decent .us domains of mine. You can adjust your offers to me accordingly.

I didn't say that .US is fully strong extension right now but It's not that bad :)

About taxi.us auction, It might be a valid offer but unfortunately the seller thought that the auction will bring more bids.

I can't be sure about "completed" sale here but I can't ignore it either. Actually I can accept the fact that taxi.us could sell for $35k more than Fund.com for $9,999,950 :)

Yes, taxi might be a valid offer, but I wouldn't be the second bidder in any auciton that has only one bid for that amount of money, especially on a .us. Let's face it, $35,000 is not the norm for a .us domain.

On a related note, I would love to see taxi.us go for $35 grand. In the meantime, however, I am still going to apply the "giggle test" when I see such posts.

Agreed.

I wouldn't be the second bidder either. The starting bid doesn't give any space for anybody (domainers, investors, webmasters, 95% of end-users) IMO

Glad you got my point.

The buyer might just have found that 1 person (thats all it needs) who thinks this name is worth $35k to him.

It's not a real smart way to try and get people to buy your .us names when you say something like below :)

With all due respect, what is the alternative? Should I have cited all reported high .us auctions, sales, or listings without a good faith belief in them? I do not do business that way.

I will say though, that I really hope taxi goes for $35K or more. That would be great; but one must always scrutinize any auction that has only one bid that meets a high reserve on a tld that typically doesn't command that high of a price. You even wrote:

$35k for taxi.us is conceivable. I have been in negotiations with a few .us holders for a few top-quality .us domains and many of these sellers are holding firm to their asking prices of $20-25k+ per domain. So yes, I do believe that taxi.us could sell for $35k. To a large taxi company, that is a drop in the bucket of their yearly revenue and would greatly assist in marketing.

And would greatly assist us in boosting the name of .us probably in a metropolitan area like NYC, LA, etc.

Hmmm, interesting. Yes, it's a real bid. We paid more than we had planned.

We're in the insurance business that covers thousands of Taxi cab companies around the US.

Our customers and insurance brokers need to manage their fleets, drivers coverage's etc., this portal is simple and easy for all their many employees to remember.

Our unique business relationships with our customers (taxi companies), provides us the critical mass to promote industry standards for the public to order taxi's. With most of the industry support we should be able to leap frog potential competitors.

Taxi.us leaves no doubt in anyone’s mind that this applies to taxi’s in the United States.

Of course the last reason is: Taxi.com wanted $1 million.

Best Regards,
Dave

PS: If you’re curious, I Googled taxi.us and a few blogs came up.

PSS: If Shemale.com went for $520K, surely this is worth what we’re paying. With our further development, it should create additional value.

Congrats on your company's purchase. Your anecdote draws closely on why I feel other businesses will start gravitating towards the .us extension--not necessarily because they like it or think it is patriotic, but simply due to the extreme cost of obtaining a .com alternative.

Just think, your company paid $35k for the domain and now has the $965,000 to pay for marketing for taxi.us (versus had you purchased the .com). Smart decision IMO because it would allow you to basically slap car stickers/banners/advertisements on every single cab your company oversees for taxi.us and you will still have saved money versus buying the .com.
