Switching keywords

I just switched out keywords on about 50 names and I am dead in the water for traffic today.

Does switching keywords effect the traffic? Is the name optimized independent of the keywords or do you start all over again when changing your keywords?

Keywords do affect traffic unless you were getting mostly type-ins in the first place. You need to consider how many other pages are competing for the same keywords. Perhaps before your keywords were searched a bit less but you had less competition. Are your pages parked or do they have content? If they have content you also need to update the content to match the new keywords. Good Luck.
