I've been a Tucows reseller for a long time and have probably 1,000 domains with them (registered for clients, only a few are mine!). They are expensive but they have always been reliable, and this of course is important.
Since I've been with them street prices for domains have gone down and down. Tucows has not lowered their prices, and it is now impossible to try and compete and make any kind of meaningful profit. The price I'm paying as a "reseller" is higher than what most people pay at retail for places like GoDaddy and RegisteryFly (and even less at some other places).
Now, this month, Tucows has RAISED their prices by $0.10 per year of registration. That's only 1%, but things are going in the WRONG direction.
What I'm thinking of doing now is getting one of those $6.95 eNom reseller accounts people sell on eBay for $200 and trying to get price competitive again. I am wondering what the gurus here think of this. Bad idea? I have heard mixed reviews of eNom, although it's been mostly good. I have trepidations about buying a reseller account though eBay; if I have problems who do I go to for support? Would love to hear any/all suggestions here. I really have no complaints with Tucows other than price (a nicer control panel wouldn't hurt either), but I'm losing sales and exisiting customers are transfering their domains elsewhere at renewal time (and who can blame them when they can save practically 50%).
