I hope I've put this thread in the right section, but here's my point:

How do you guys think that the new Microsoft Surface Computer (already in production) will affect not just the domain industry but also the website development industry?

In my view; although this technology is not yet ready to be marketed at end users, however within 10 years this sort of technology will be widely seen in homes.

The reason I say this is because of the simplicity of use. A keyboard and mouse are hardly natural extensions of our hands and it would therefore be much more intuitive to use a system like Surface. Perhaps in combination with speech recognition software which will recognize and process commands much more efficiently then we have now.

Once this technology becomes prevalent, it will certainly have an impact at least on the website design industry because not just the design but the full functionality of websites will hold a whole new meaning.

imho it will be 20 years before the OS catches up with the end-user. Look how long it took for the mouse to catch on. There still isn't even high LCD penetration. Some people still use 800x600 for a resolution. And surface or not...you still need a keyboard. Sorry but typing on a screen won't happen.

Surface will be good for kiosks and special applications.

Typing on a screen won't happen?

What about the iPhone? As much of a Blackberry whore that I am, the touch screen is something that only gets better and better.

My 2 cents.

I tend to agree here... The iPhone is absolutely amazing in it's simplicity. I also think that typing will take a backseat in the next 10-20 years as speech-recognition software will take over as our primary data input method.

It's out there now
Read WIRED magazine,
they had an article about a bar that has an interactive bar top for wine.
It'll give advice and more about wine that you can order. Really cool.
