Agree.

Found these figures at Domainicon.

I couldn't find these figures here ... do you think perhaps they were "Asking prices" (versus "Sales prices")?

I found these figures here:http://www.domainicons.com/publish_domain.php

w/ this disclaimer:Note : DomainIcons.Com have not verified all record sales, and highly recommend further verification.

The following domain names are a collection of published record sales and are also being used by professional appraisers, brokers, resellers, and spectators to determine value of current retail domain names. (source: New York Times, Daily News, Afternic.Com, AuctionWatch.Com, DomainNameStuffetc.Com & others)
:| Curious numbers, no?

Exactly my thought. If these are indeed correct numbers, it seems that in *many instances*, marketing takes precedence over name quality and all of our evaluations and selection criteria.

I see the old beauty.cc for $1,000,000 is still up there. Everyone knows that was a Netsol gimmick.

"BestHosting.net" also is there (thanks for the provided "link") ... having been sold for $2,402.
It's currently for sale at its site/parking page by BuyDomain's for $288.00 ("Buy Now" price).
Many of these listed here may be outdated, as well ... along with Armstrong's specific point above.

Not a terribly reliable source, I take it. Still, there are a enough oddities here, that are for real, to make one stand up and take notice.

Overall, I would concur ... with the caveat that even they themselves encourage additional and further verifications.
Nice thread, Grrilla. :)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm running out right now to place backorders on hipoteca.com, bayandsellonline.com, 1st-US-Store.com:gn:-, ASSeenontv.com and babygaga.com. :lala:Great keywords, highly brandable, associated w/ large revenue industries, excellent recall value, snappy, to the point, unique winners, *and* great prices! Gee... wonder if .ws or .name might work w/ some of these beauties?? :tri:

it appears that domain names are overrated...

depends upon what domain names you are talking about and what your business objectives are. An excellent or very good name = traffic = money. Those are gone unless you have very deep pockets. Good names need to be developed through branding and linking to build the traffic that is needed to make the name a viable commodity. Most of the names and prices on this list (those that are not bogus) are an abberation of the domain name marketing and website sales business. Hence, the subject line "Strange Sales".:)
