Lately, I've been noticing a series of domain names appearing in sales reports that make no sense whatsoever, as shown in the screenshot below. These are being sold at a specific price range to avoid triggering fraud detection systems.

Are aftermarket platforms unaware of this issue? Or are they simply focused on the commission they'll receive and ignoring what's really happening?

What do you think is going on because I've noticed the same thing but wasn't as savvy as you to bring up the issue?I know you mentioned fraud. I've frequently encountered this pattern while tracking sales over the years. What's surprising is that criminals are still able to apply the exact same tactic across all platforms. It's very easy to detect and prevent this, especially in the AI era.

Something's amiss. I began by picking three just to see what the WHOIS is like. I noticed they shared the same birthday," but were born on different years (July 26, 20XX).

I thought that was odd and went down a rabbithole (jackalope-hole?) and looked through 26 of the top 100 (by $$$) sold on Dynadot on September 2, 2026. I looked at 30 altogether. With the exception of megaworldluxury.com* (July 27, 2017), they were all also born on July 26 (Birth years are listed below). The last updated is 7/26 or 7/27 on all of them.

I looked at DNS records on a few and they were all pointed at Alibaba. Given the number of "irregularities" around some of their accounting practices, I wouldn't be surprised if they're cooking the books. They may also be going to or coming from the laundromat or carwash.

*I was looking at the whois.com version of WHOIS. It may very well be another 7/26 birthday if we account for timezone differences (I'm in Tornado Alley, USA).

It's not surprising that they were all registered on 26 July in different years, if they were sold on the expiry auction - all domains registered on 26 July will have the same expiry cycle, be auctioned on the same day or drop on the same day...

Yes, easy to detect and prevent...but prevent what?

I fully agree that some shenanigans are happening at the laundramat, but as far as the platforms are concerned, those are legitimate and legal transactions...at least until some govt entity decides to subpoena the platform for buyer/seller records.
