Wow, I’m a shocked by this, thankyou both for taking the time to reply.
Would either of you be able to point me in the direction on how to try selling it for this kind of money, would I be better using a broker?
I think you need to take what these guys have said with a pinch of salt. Whilst not impossible to realise that sort of money on a .co.uk domain, it would be very rare. If you look at co.uk sales over the last few years, only a few have exceeded 50k. And we're talking domains like it.co.uk and domains tied to lucrative industries like insurance and gambling - stake.co.uk and vaninsurance.co.uk being more recent top sales.
Sting does not have particularly positive commercial connotations. I'm a Brit, and when I think about the word "sting" I think a) getting stung by a wasp and b) a police sting.
Getting a sting is generally not a nice event.
The other issue I've got is that Sting is a famous English musician - so that's what a lot of Brits will also think about.
Realistically, if you were branding a UK business, would you call it sting?
Now, that's not to say that the domain isn't worth some money. It is memorable and could potentially suit some sort of bold start-up or something more artsy. But I would be amazed if you managed to sell it for anywhere near 50k.
I can find two sales for the word "sting" over the last 5 years.
Sting.co - sold for $9,000 and seemingly an end-user sale as it is being used by a real company
Sting.ai - sold for $419
Of note, Stinging.com sold for about $700
So it's a bit of a mixed picture.
https://domainlore.uk will give you a better sense of the going rate for UK domains, on the re-seller market at least. That's where you will have to go if you want immediate liquidity. You can of course hang on for an end-user, but at the prices being suggested above I suspect you'll never find one.
You could probably sell it on this forum for around $500. On domain lore you might get up to about £1000-2000 if you got lucky. If you do go down the end-user route, I'd probably aim for 5 to 7.5k to ensure a sale some time this century.
