I'm wondering about the legal/emotion reactions to a new web forum I noticed taking articles from this site (tutorials) without references or credits. It appears the site authors want to build up their site by posting tutorials (from here and elsewhere). One person duplicates a post form here (minus the credit but sometimes links), and another member replies "great post!". Almost always the same two members. They seem to have just started this in the last week.

I don't this is acceptable morally (possibly legally) but how do you all feel about it?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

What is the site in question? Essentially if it is not their own posts it is copyright theft.

I'll have to agree with peter but it's almost impossible to stop that...they copy it, and maybe modify some words to it's original content then post it...but then, if you think about that, I'm sure these are lots of people who got the article from somewhere else and posted it on namepros

That is very true. If credit is not given (or the area the post is in forbids it) the posts are deleted.

that's only if staff find that it's taken from somewhere else.... no offence :)
but I didn't know that anyway :)

Actually, I won't post the site here right away. I'll send their admin a polite letter and see what response I get (I don't want the site blacklisted if the owners are unaware). If they don't do anything about it then I'll post them here and let individuals here contact them with regards to their own material.

Thanks for the input.

franlky its not that good to do that but we cannot stop that so instead of worrying about it lets just accept it. Thats all we can do about it stealing will go on all the times.

As long as Search engine section and Webmaster Tutorials sections are concerned I have already put on rules for this.

I keep an eye on posters who tend to keep copy pasting.

Moreover I use copyscape a lot. :xf.love:

If I find an article or forum post copied from somewhere without giving credits or if it is breaking the rules of the place where it was copied from it gets deleted.

Normally users don't see those deleted threads so it looks clean to them.

As for the articles being copied from our forum. I think if someone from staff finds out the place then they will surely report it to the hosting provider of that particular site.

Sorry but you are wrong. Stealing doesn't continues. It can be stopped and with proper work and attention towards this it can all be brought down.

well someone cannot go on checking each and every thread on regular basis that if it is copied or not. But I think that is the duty of the users who see this stuff to report them directly to the staff.

Thanks.

Well.. is it not possible to make a script which checks? I f it finds something thats possible then it reports to management.

I think that would work, and I know Second Version and many others here are capable of it.

But it does need to stop. Admittedly I paste some from other blogs on my blog, but I always credit to the rightful owner.

Copyscape does have this options but it would be very costly at the rate of 4.99 for 10 pages.

I think with help of Google API something could be done and we can que up 1000 pages per day.

On the other hand I think we have more then 1000 threads per day over here on NP. So it will be a never ending war.

We might need to monitor some sections I think and this can be done.

It could be done but the cost involved would be great. Imagine having to check every post of every day to see if it is scraped from another site. It is not feasible.

I personally work on intuition. If something doesn't look right I will look more into it to see if it is ripped from somewhere.
