Hello,

I have connected to my server (via ssh port 22) and am trying to download on it, but the wget command does not work, every time i try to do this i get the error host not found. It is the same when i try to ping a site or spider a site. I am running XP on my home computer and the server is using Debian. If anyone can tell me another command or tell me how i can fix wget, please tell me.

I am trying to download Xampp, but i get an error similar to this:

host:~# wget http://www.google.com
--05:40:21-- http://www.google.com/
=> `index.html'
Resolving www.google.com... failed: Host not found.
host:~#

SSH uses port 22, Telnet uses port 23.

And I believe you need to have an extension, such as include the index.html when you use wget.

I have tried that when i use the download link for xampp, it ends with the tar.gz extension. It should download it. It also doesnt work when i ping a site or spider it.

Possibly a problem with name resolution. Try using an IP address instead and see if that works. Could also be a firewall issue. Do a traceroute to an IP address and see what happens.

this is a dns issue

Resolving www.google.com... failed: Host not found.

check your dns settings on the server/pc
