Hi

How much do you guys think SPORTS.COM would actually sell for if it were sold today?

FYI -I'm doing an essay on domain evaluation for my business class so I need some estimates on common word domain names.

Thanks ;)

Isn't sex.com on the market for $14M still?

If it were, then more than $ 14 milllion.

as cheap as news.com :cy:

That struck me as funny since "Sports" was a top selling album by Huey Lewis and the "News"

I would say somewhere between 5 and 15 million.

I think it would reach $30 million on name alone. Sports.com is a huge name.

A good question is what is worth more? Sport or Sports.

Definitely sports.com IMO. Most of the time this word is used in plural sense.

I would have to agree, the plural is definately better than the singular.

Its already a developed site, so putting a price tag on the name itself means nothing now, so your best bet is to pick a domain which hasn't been developed.

how about sex.com

The only thing missing from the Sex.com story is a dead stripper found with a rubber alligator lodged in her throat -- though, by all estimates, to add this to the URL's outrageous legacy wouldn't be a huge shocker. It would only be adding some sex to the mix -- especially considering the Sex.com story includes a fugitive seized by U.S. marshals, hard-luck convicted felons hiding millions in Mexican shrimp farms and strip clubs, the fugitive's daughter caught smuggling over 200 pounds of pot, one multimillionaire dot-com scammer speed fiend with a Stanford MBA, a bizarre bid to buy Caesars Palace and a recent Tijuana gangland-style assassination attempt on a lawyer (nicknamed "The Toad") that left a Mexican cabbie and a 4-year-old boy wounded.

Sports.com would be huge much bigger than pizza.com.

Think about the amount of possible usage for an end user... nearly endless!

10 - 20 million bucks imo.

Based on the fact that gambling and sports are such a massive $$$ market. I think this statement is false. IMHO.

i don't agree

sport is plural also
in the same way property is singular and plural, then also you have properties of course

both sport & sports.com are multi million $ domains, prob 8 figure domains, however imo sport.com is the daddy
don't forget, this is English. Americans speak something else, i haven't figured out what to call that yet
 :sold:

Gotta disagree with you arnie...

Sports plural is the "daddy". It is used far more often in almost every sense. Here are some examples:

"ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports"
Sports Illustrated
sports.yahoo.com
sports.aol.com
nbcsports.msnbc.com
msn.foxsports.com
"Hey Arnie, did you see the headline of the sports page today"

Also feel sport.comworth at least 10 times more than sports.com because it's like saying Rackets.com you would rather have racket.com because it's easier for visitors to remember.

you don't have to keep reminding people your domain got a "s" in the end.

Compare sports.com with games.com, they are on the same level. And not with pizza.com

Agreed (or sold as you would put it), I will even go one step further and say sport.com is a better domain name than sports.com IMO

Many of you need to get a better perspective..

USA -> sports.com is more valuable

UK/Australia/colonies -> sport.com is more valuable
('Sport' is also widely used in many non-English European languages)
