Hi

How much do you guys think SPORTS.COM would actually sell for if it were sold today?

FYI -I'm doing an essay on domain evaluation for my business class so I need some estimates on common word domain names.

Thanks ;)

Sports.com is a multi million dollar domain. It would go for a minimum of $5-$10 million today.

You better own the domain....
Or the owner might think you'll steal it

No 5-10 million is too much

as pizza.com gone for 4 million

I will say it's 1/10th of that price tag

$7-9 Million, varies if betting business is included.

1/10 of what pizza.com went for?? ROFLMAO..

Let's put this into perspective.

Pizza = 181 million results in google
Sports = 1.37 billion results in google

Pizza a food primarily consumed in U.S.
Sports an activity with games played in every part of the world

Sports fans and players worldwide spend billions each year attending sporting events, buying sports apparel and sports equipment, gambling on sports, ordering sporting events on tv, eating/drinking at sports bars etc.. Pizza consumers will only spend a fraction of this amount on their favorite dough, marinara sauce and cheese.

Let's not confuse the original poster here, there is no way in hell that Pizza.com would ever be worth more than Sports.com and yes if Sports.com were ever on the market (which it never will be) it would sell for much higher than $5 million.

I would say Sports.com would be at least $7-$10 million for the name alone.

With the site, it will sell for more than $ 25 million.

Yes, the site gets 11969 searches per day. It is ranked 38,522 on Alexa. $ 25 million would be a base price to get the ball moving.

more than $25 million for the site/business/domain IMHO

Domain only could fetch $10million, and that's without considering the residual traffic it would get if split form the site.

Use arnie's link rather than use a specific name picked at random for your paper, I doubt sports.com will come on sale again.

hhahaha....please tell me what domains you have for sale because you certainly don't know what value is.

Domain alone...easily $10 million but could go for much more. $10 million might be considered a bargain. Potential buyers include broadcasting companies (radio, tv, cable), Magazines, or even companies like MLB or NFL. It's currently owned by a gambling operation too. Franchises might also want this...like the Yankees or the Dallas Cowboys (although they idiotically passed on cowboys.com recently).

Sports.com would be a top 10 domain choice for a generic domain.

If I were to make a guess...the site probably makes a couple million a year as it is.

They missed a great oportunity. :D

Isn't sex.com on the market for $14M still? If sex.com is a $14M domain, there is no way sports is worth $10M. I understand sports are very popular, but everyone knows what helped the explosive growth of the internet, and it wasn't sports :D

I still think there could be an argument made that this is one of the most valuable domains period. It is such a waste the way CNET uses it.

Every news company from Fox, CNN, MSNBC, Reuters, BBC, AP, Yahoo, Google, etc. would drive that to the record domain sale I bet if CNET ever sold it.
