Nice post. But it begs the question what IS the PROPER way to do OUTBOUND sales without ending up like this guy?

From my readings about domain selling it's been said that if you are not doing outbounds aka emailing whoever about a domain you are selling then aren't doing everything that's possible to get your domain sold.

For example our buddy ZANDIBOT admits doing extensive outbounds. But he has almost always ultra premium domains to sell like his most recent Travel.Agency. that being said would we call him a spammer? I think not right ?

There really is a very thin line between genuine outbound sales emailing vs. spammy activity.

So how does one avoid being labeled as spammer ?

Not defending this guy mind you but couldn't we as domainers just see guys like this as simply doing what all domainers should be doing which is outbounds?

I almost feel like the really best way to do "outbounds" is a Press Release.

Why?

Because if a domainer chooses the email outbound option they can diy it or pick a paid service.

If choosing to pay why not instead do a press release?

That way you get the word out about your domain. Plus you also get the benefit of SEO from getting your domain backlinks on high rank press release and or news sites like Google news.

Some good press release services can get your press release on 430k article and news sites.

Imagine the value bump from that many backlinks?

Which will increase the value of your domain.

What do you think ?

Pricey? Yes!

But at least you avoid being exposed as a spammer just like you did with this guy. Lol

Thoughts?

Ya, lets create a data base of every live email adresse there is, then every one of us, can email every person on that list. Nothing wrong with that. The thing is when a legitimate investor like us, send an email to an owner of a business or domain owner of something similar, in a professional way, is fine. Sending out the same email to multiple people day after day, year after year, for a name registered yesterday is spam, unsolicited email. There is supposed to be an unsubscribe link. Since you mention @Zandibot I wonder what his template looks like and wether it is professional. Also wonder if he randomly sends his emails to anyone and everyone, day after day, year after year?
There are many documented articles about this guy.
Also note that other end users receive this spam, so when they get an email from a legitimate? investor like us, they am sure of tired of the nonsense and most get junked, probably marked as spam.

For many reasons including spam, scams, chargebacks, and all the development offers we get every night from india, this business like i said is becoming very dirty.

We will never know the facts of how many emails this guy sends a day, or how many emails genuine business owners get this crap email. It will simply get worse, until.. can't say it, been slapped for promoting actions that are not ethical.

There is a proper way of doing business and a hey do you want to buy this name i reg yesterday to multiple people is not good business. Not good for domaining in general.
At least Dicker got what he deserved?

Press release is great idea, I saw post on domaining .com about the name Chris.net, he did it right.
And maybe emailing a few people with that name, in a professional way is not bad. But these spammers are crossing a line, and the old saying. Give them an inch, they take a

Also, do hope your feeling better, I have learned past is past(mindfulness), but now is time to take care of the present.

If I remember correctly estibot offers a "service" to send out emails for you to domain owners with domains with similar keywords as your domain.

I think estibot "subcontracts " this service to someone in India once it is ordered from them. I doubt estibot would risk using their own domain for this. For fear of being labeled as spammer.

I'm sure other companies and brokers do the same.

You should ask him to get an "appraisal" done first to ensure you are not overpaying for this premium opportunity!

Outbound sales are generally intended for end users not domain investors with "similar" domains.

The proper forum for investor exposure is an auction listing, use of a broker, forum or blog.

I agree reaching out to investors with similar domains is spammy.
Cheers

Your name and shame of this guy is a bit unfair in my opinion, he is a domainer just like any of us. I'm sure every single person who has ever sent an email or cold called someone for a sale of domain has been labelled a spammer by someone. You also admitted you have sent one spam email yourself, do we name and shame you next? I find that best domainers in this business send out about 50 emails/calls a day and I'm sure are labelled as a nuisance by many.

As for SEO, website services, hosting and all the rest that is spam mail as it's sent to every single person regardless. In this case he singled you out as you have a similar domain. Is it spam or a targeted email?

If you name and shame every single domainer who has ever sent out an outbound email, you would have a thread with over 75% of domainers of this industry which by your own admittance would include yours. Yes I hate generic spam, but be careful not to fuck over your colleagues in your endeavours to rant about it publically.

Just my opinion and the person in question is not me.

So what ? He gets a free pass ?
This thread is justified.

I'm sure every single person who has ever sent an email or cold called someone for a sale of domain has been labelled a spammer by someone.
Spam is when you are sending mail in bulk and that is untargeted, unpersonalized and totally irrelevant to the other party.
Why would MasterOfMyDomains need a shit domain like DesiredDeal.com ?

Sending a bunch of random domains to a stranger (or a domainer) is a no-no.
Spamming the same person over and over is a no-no.

Last but not least, you don't spam with a list of crap domains. At least if the domains were good some business could take place, but we always get spam for crap domains - good domains sell for themselves :)
Here we have someone suffering from a total lack of ethics, common sense, education, business acumen and netiquette.

Sorry @Kate, do you have a company or website? Would you mind telling me it please?

It's incredibly easy and convenient for people to hide behind forum names and act the badass, where as it's highly likely you probably participate in the same 'spam' emails as the accused.

Your whole argument is based around crap domains, fuck domain quality. It's irrelevant. Quality is determined by the end user or the eventual buyer. Lets define spam properly. It comes down to one simple thing.

An email or phone call made to someone which is unsolicited (i.e. the recipient never asked for, signed up to, or subscribed to), is regarded as spam.

It doesn't matter what your selling, whether it be potatoes or webhosting services, or domains. Contacting someone without permission is SPAM.

Whether you have LLL/com or DesiredDeal/com. It's fucking spam regardless.

So by that definition 99% of all outbound by domainers is SPAM. Anyone who has ever sent an outbound email or picked up a phone to call anyone from a local business down the road to a top 100 blue chip company is a spammer. Pure and simple.

  • A visible and operable unsubscribe mechanism is present in all emails.
  • A legitimate physical address of the publisher and/or advertiser is present. PO Box addresses are acceptable in compliance with 16 C.F.R. 316.2(p) and if the email is sent by a third party, the legitimate physical address of the entity, whose products or services are promoted through the email should be visible.
It's looking like if you load your cannon properly you can fire at will.
However registering a name then firing off 1000 cannons per name or maybe 100,000 who knows is acceptable, day after day.

And there is a difference in having a name and emailing someone who may benefit, unless you want 100,000 million.
Another example of spam would be going on a facebook page owned by a rich family and trying to sell them domains with their names in it.
Either or, by the time a legitimate person, sending a proper email gets their message to the end user, they have been blasted by so many other offers, and notices they may be removed from search engines or blacklisted.
It's just more spam.I got 8 seo offers from reputable company with outlook email, and a great offer on viagra last night.

Hi Web Owner

We are 30+ employees working round the clock for our overseas clients and if you have any of the following requirement please revert back to us: :spam: :stop:

Their getting better at hiding ip and stuff, it will only get worse so we might as well enjoy what little spam we get every day

According to the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 if these random webhosting spammers included an unsubscribe link and their business address, they can spam to their hearts' content.

However Google defines spam as:

irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the Internet, typically to large numbers of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc.

Don't kid yourself, according to the definition of spam, there is no difference at all.

If you are sending out unsolicited messages you are spamming, whether you think the end user could benefit or not is irrelevant.

Sorry @Kate, do you have a company or website? Would you mind telling me it please?
Shouldn't be that hard to find :)

I tend to like your posts, but in the present case we have clear case of spamming and if I'm reading this right
@MasterOfMyDomains is also complaining of repeated spamming from the same offender. This is not the way to do it. One spam is bad enough, but repeated spamming is a sure way to alienate possible buyers, and of course it's totally counterproductive anyway, but spammers are dumb.

It's incredibly easy and convenient for people to hide behind forum names and act the badass, where as it's highly likely you probably participate in the same 'spam' emails as the accused.
Nope. I am not hiding but I value my privacy and on the occasion I have had to deal with stalkers and hackers. For instance after I called out one of those pesky spammers. I give out personal information on a need to know basis and when I'm doing business with someone.

Your whole argument is based around crap domains, f*ck domain quality. It's irrelevant.
Absolutely not, E-mail must be targeted not to qualify as spam. That means it must be personalized and tailored to the recipient. That means research.
For example I have received spam for plumbing equipment from China, how does that relate to my business ? How could I benefit ? It's just blind, mass spamming and they are sending millions of mails like that.
Domain quality is sometimes debatable but a turd is a turd no matter if you put lipstick on it :-P

So by that definition 99% of all outbound by domainers is SPAM.
Maybe not 99% but quite close unfortunately. How do I know ? I am on the receiving end too. You have noticed that it's always crap domains that are spammed. Those who own good domains know they can just wait for unsolicited offers.
I can't remember one single time when I was spammed for a domain, and decided to buy it (and yet I buy on a regular basis).

European Union[edit]
All the countries of the European Union have passed laws that specifically target spam.

Article 13 of the European Union Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications (2002/58/EC) provides that the EU member states shall take appropriate measures to ensure that unsolicited communications for the purposes of direct marketing are not allowed either without the consent of the subscribers concerned or in respect of subscribers who do not wish to receive these communications, the choice between these options to be determined by national legislation.

In the United Kingdom, for example, unsolicited emails cannot be sent to an individual subscriber unless prior permission has been obtained or unless there is a previous relationship between the parties.[21] The regulations can be enforced against an offending company or individual anywhere in the European Union. TheInformation Commissioner's Office has responsibility for the enforcement of unsolicited emails and considers complaints about breaches. A breach of an enforcement notice is a criminal offence subject to a fine of up to £500,000.[22]

3 times, 2 at one email, 1 at another email. Seems every country is different :xf.confused:

See @Kate and @MasterOfMyDomains and perhaps even myself for that matter like to send out targeted emails to users who might benefit, but technically it's still spam.

I guess my point is, its incredibly easy to be hypocritical here. I wouldn't be so quick to deal out judgement.

I don't send spam, I don't send emails to buyers. Maybe I should.
Partly because it is wrong, and partly I don't want my email adresse marked as a spam email addresse.
I know i can create 1000 more

Like I put earlier i sent one to owner of .co that I have the .com of.
Once, no reply. I am so sorry to have bothered him/her I should email an apology, from an email addresse using the domain I wish to sell them ;)

Pretty easy to create a facebook page with your portfolio, and pay to advertise that thru their system
There are many legitimate ways to get your product or service out to consumers without spamming
Pay people to tweet it, use linkedin, good old google, but people want the easy way, regardless if its wrong.
Because there doesn't seem to be any consequences for our actions online anymore, anywhere.

We are all judgemental, human nature though it is wrong. Like spam
