Probably a scam then

Possibly scam or it's a pre-offer from a drop catcher.

I used to offered a domain name for $150 via whois email, but didn't receive any reply. I got the name through godaddy backorder service later. Then I received a $550 counter offer for its ex-owner after 1 month since I received the name. Things totally changed. :)

I think it's the latter. In my experience, it usually occurs where you have the domain in another extension. They hope you will buy the domain and then they go capture it.

yup , they are pre-dropcatchers ... they search whois if you have a .net/.org of a domain and "offer" the .com , while actually they just plan to get it when it drops

I have received an email like that some time ago in my whois address from <something>@tripod.co.uk

I think the price was for the exact same amount

yes, webnamesolution.com is an old scam, they have been advertising domains they don't own for years, some aren't even going to drop and the owner has no knowledge of them offering the domain for sale.

i's amazing they haven't been prosecuted yet.

for the bots: webnamesolution scammers scam "web name solution scammers"

So, what happen when they don't catch the domain?
Refund?

aah yes , webnamesolution (as VirtualT said) is another one of the pre-dropcatchers

(just checked an old email from tripod.co.uk and one from webnamesolution)

tripod.co.uk say in their email that they will try to catch the name when it drops

while webnamesolution pretend they already own it and that they are offering it for sale

(the $199.95 was in the webnamesolution email)

copper - do you think you should trust your credit card details to a company that tries to sell you a domain they don't own ?

No way I would do that.
I was just asking what would happen.
I am sure there are some people out there who will pay.

Not sure if webnamesolution is still in business but they would also taste domains, spam you if you own the .net for example, then drop the name after 5 days so you can pick it up for reg fee...
But I believe there's another outfit that does just the same thing.

copper - lol , actually , I did not mean that you would do that

I just wanted some newer members (that might be reading the thread) to think a little more before giving their credit card details anywhere on the net where they might be misused

LOL do you meen backordering a domain name is a misuse??

and am not a new member its been three days since am here.

backordering a name is not misuse

implying that you own a name that you don't and offering it for sale is wrong though

(in the OP , you can see that that they pretend they already own the domain and offering for sale as a "limited time special offer")

if someone lies like that to make a sale , there is a strong possibility that he might lie about other things also (like giving your CC details to a friend to buy that laptop he wanted ;) )

I am not saying that webnamesolution would do that ... but sometimes deals go sour with people that seem legit , I think the chances of something going wrong are even worse if the other person acts shady like that
