Someone explain to me pls

Could someone explain to me pls the importance of keywords? I mean I was searching some words today on google and I've noticed that my site apears in the 5th or 6th place behind some sites. I opened those sites, clicked view source and saw that they have NO keywords in their source...I mean what is the difference in puting keywords then??

some searches use the meta-tags and some do not, if you have them and these other sites do not that were coming up higher than you, I would guess it is because they have their pages optimized nice with the keywords and possibly a higher pagerank as well.

Yes ,Keywords in META-Tags are not even Recognised by some search engines ,while others ignore more than a small number
The Content and Keywords in the Names,Titles and Filenames are more likely to be factors in listing.

Meta tags are not used by all search engines, however it's not a bad idea to make sure your meta tags are in place in case you need them.

To get high rankings, you need high link popularity...

Start search the web for website directories ans start submitting your site to as many as you can find. Make it a daily goal to submit to a certain amount of directories everyday, and it wont take long for you to build up your link popularity.

Another way is to visit www.linkmarket.net and signup for an account and start exchanging links with similar sites as yours.
