It is likely that some domainers sold the same domain more than once.
This also happened to me.

Back in 2018, more than five years ago, I sold my domain Building.Life for the first time for $900.

There is a thread about it here:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/sold-to-the-founder-of-condo-com-my-new-gtld-with-bin.1063365/

A year later, they apparently forgot to renew the domain, and it became available again.
So, I registered it a second time, and last year I sold this domain a second time, this time for $2,500

Always super fun, but scary too for the one time I experienced it.. For me it was like, will I get an email from the first buyer full of accusations and then I have to explain the renewal/expiration process to legitimize it? Lucky it was free and clear and sometimes lightening does strike the same domain twice.

Sold a domain at $1,500 , then the domain was resold at $5,500 . Domain was then dropped. Brought the same domain at GoDaddy for $12 . Sold the domain again at $2,000 .

It was fun !!

Regardless how or why it happens, I tend to see the occasional repeat sales reports for the same domains while doing professional appraisals.

It's not just interesting to see, but it can paint a picture.

Random Example:
heyticket.com390 USD2024-12-10Namecheap
heyticket.com2000 USD2014-09-03Private

It can sometimes be a little scary, since it's an indicator that a specific niche has either lost value in the amount of time between the two reports or that the first report may have actually been pure hype and not factual.

In either case, it still has to be considered during an evaluation, resulting in a negative impact to it's current market value.

In situations where it's reversed and the original sale price was lower than the second (Like in your case with Building.life), it can have a positive effect on the niches floor value potential.

Either way, this is an interesting topic to combine with evaluation methodology (1 of many, many different variables that can effect prospective and potential value estimations).

Thanks for sharing :)

At least 3 of the nearly 30 domains I have sold in the last 12 months have been bought by other domainers / investors, so we may see different prices in the future. :)

Yes!

It's always nice to distinguish between reseller, hobbyists and end user (real world) use cases.

It makes present and future evaluations much more interesting when you can differentiate between them as you disect and deep dive into the data. 😀

I will open another thread soon with my sales for the last 12 months.
Almost all domains were bought by end users, most projects have very nice working sites.

I have about 400 domains, but only 300 are actively for sale.
The sales rate is almost 10% for the last 12 months.

And the best of the best domain names are not for sale. :)

10% is actually a very high STR (sell thru rate).

Congrats on that!
