Social Bookmarking - Your Experience?

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Ive been thinking of taking one or two members up on their offers in the NP$ incentives section to submit one of my blogs to 50 or more social bookmarking sites...

My question(s) is, do you recommend this, what will I gain etc?

Obviously this may have an affect on traffic, backlinks, PR etc etc... what are your experiences. Is this good for SEO? Will it have a positive / negative affect?

Thanks in advance!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Most bookmarking sites have a "nofollow" attribute, which means it has zero effect to your PR. But traffic, yes, but it depends on the quality of your post.

There is a temporary impact on traffic. If you have a very good site, you may get repeats. But it is tough. Most people have just enough time each day to go to a certain number of favorite sites, and after that they are plumb out of time.

I've gotten the most benefit traffic-wise out of StumbleUpon, but it's in and out traffic, they don't stay very long and I doubt they return on their own.

i can say you get positive things
I have heard from others they said the page rank was increased and even traffic too

It also depends on your site and the content... If your site appeals to certain types of people you may do better. We've gotten 1,000+ hits from Digg in one day but the next day drop back down to 200.. so its hit or miss.. some of them are repeats, but not many. I'm not sure it would be worth you paying someone to bookmark them, rather than you yourself creating a good description and bookmark them yourself. This way you have some strategy, rather than just submitting at random.

I use bookmarking for keyword SEO (nofollow atribute don`t affect keyword optimisation) so with bookmarking my pages are in first 2-3 pages.

I to primarily use the social network for traffic and SEO keywords. I do believe del.icio.us, stumble and technorati dont use the no follow. So if its for the temporary fix for traffic, go for it. Especially if you are trying to promote something.

mainly it can help your site in backlinks, and temporary traffic but also continues as your story (site) are socialed by other members of same interest.

just stay away from social bookmark that don't want their content being incentivize like digg.com, netscape, propeller or your account will get banned and all social links deleted from their database.

another you gain are invaluables like online friends and you can share your link to them knowing they will like it.

You do end up getting temporarily traffic, but the traffic is low quality, it doesn't convert well.

It may soon convert well though if those pay per play ads turn out to work as good as everyones saying they will!

social book markings are a good source of traffic and backlinks, though it depends on the sites, the site should be related. Sometimes it can give long-lasting traffic which depends on your content. Some may browse your site for more than a month.

you gain backlinks and also clickthrues as well among the biggest that you need to include are stumbleupon, del.icio.us and reddit.

You can't get some decent traffic from it.

I use only stumbleupon.
Brings me decent traffic, low converting but what the hey right?
So it pays me to have people stumble sites and pages since I make that back fairly fast.

With that said, traffic spikes on the day it is stumbled and the day after, then it slowly dies out.

Some sites of mine, the number of stumble sites that pick them up grow bit by bit as interesting to their friends and visitors.

So well worth it to have your site or page stumbled.

It depends on what you are bookmarking. Over all irt brings ome good traffic and it's a great way to target long tail keywords.

I had my site submitted to social bookmarking sites and to be honest...PR doesn't get affected. But it 'does' bring traffic in.

Traffic from social bookmarking site is useless for me, such traffic did not convert at all.

I think it's does drive some traffic in, but social bookmarking a new site with average site content is only good for backlinks. The more the merrier, and if you're lucky you get returning visitors.
