Social Bookmarking sites

Hi,

This may seem a rather silly question. But is it good to have your site listed in the top social bookmarking sites - e.g. del.icio.us?
will this help with link popularity?

Im not sure their value as backlinks but they get indexed in search engines and you can get lot of short term traffic from those. They wont give u a boost for page rank like del.icio.us use nofollow tags.

Not sure on backlinks but as far as getting you traffic to your website it helps.

It helps out decent with link popularity decently, but we found out some other good uses for them.

One was we did a small test with 3 different onlywire.com accounts.

If you do not know what onlywire.com is, its a website that allows you to post to a group of the top social bookmark sites at 1 time, and it allows you to put your "tags" which is just which keywords you wish to have the specific link target.

We took these onlywire.com accounts, and tested out various "tags" with various links to sites we were using to test. And what we found out is that if you find some good "tags" to use, your posted link will show up on themain-page of some high traffic sites.

Here is a example, if you use the tag "wii" and have 3 accounts do the same, you will show-up on the main-page of wii.yahoo.com .

So test and you will be surprised what other big sites grab the feed of these various social bookmark sites listed on onlywire.com.

As far as conversions on products, or clicks , they were low. These sites are good for some nice traffic, and if you have a blog type of site then you will probably gain some new readers , and people who comment.

These links do not help if you are after page rank. That's for sure... but people have different opinions about improvement in SE rankings because of these links. According to my personal experience, these links do help to improve your SERPs.

I agree. It does helps in better positions. I have also seen this effects on some of my sites.

For PR it might not be helping if it is a rel="nofollow" link but for page strength it helps.

it only work for a little bit... getting backlinks from normal websites would get you a lot more backlinks...

Thanks for mentioning about onlywire.com.
Seems like a great resource - only how do you use it? I'm completely stuck.
also when it comes to sites like stumble upon i'm trying to figure out how you actually recommend a site.

Any advice from IC or anyone else would be greatly appreciated. (as you can tell i'm kind of new to all this.)

On www.lookthisup.com Ive used a javascript to provide a bar on the right hand side of the screen that has links to a lot of the social bookmark sites.

I cant say this is overly successful though.
