What do you think about the idea of community assets for domainer empowerment?

It is Christmas. It is a good time to talk about Christmas gifts with the NamePros community.

A few months ago, Epik acquired the domain name NameInvestors.com in a bulk deal with Troy Rushton. We have been thinking about what to do with such a memorable name. I think we figured it out.

Here are some of the questions I have been asking internally:

What if we could create the ultimate domainer dashboard that made it easy for anyone to find and register mispriced domains?

What if we could make it completely free so that anyone could participate, even people with no money and/or no credit card could access the good stuff?

What if we made it so that the community could help build it through open source code objects for adding dashboard widgets that leveraged frictionless single-sign-on and portable payments?

What if the site was governed by democratically, with the help of industry leaders with a track record for working selflessly to make the pie bigger?

What if the entire site could be owned not by private equity investors, venture capitalists, or even high net worth individuals, but instead owned by the community who contributed to make it better?

To give some vague idea of what I mean, you can see the current status here:

https://nameinvestors.com/

This is just a functional preview of the "drag and drop" widget framework. The data is real so you can use it to find leads but please don't send bots to crawl or scale it -- your IPs will get blocked rather instantly.

I also understand that @Gube, @DanSanchez and others from @epik will be dropping gifts in this thread in the coming days in terms of additional data. I imagine Dan's available names list should be widgetized.

Who else has a domainer gift this Christmas they want to share?

I am pretty sure we can count on @Ategy @Bob Hawkes @equity78 @estibot.com @James Iles @JudgeMind @Leopard @oldtimer @Silentptnr. You guys have often brought the good stuff.

As for the poll, it is open for 12 days -- for the 12 days of Christmas, starting today.

Hi

i'll keep on giving, the same things that I have given,
since I've been a "domainer".

such as sharing "my own thoughts":

from giving advice, to sharing the idealistic and independent opinions, to the critiques that others may think, but dare not say
and in between that, still offering congratulations to those who share their successes.
I hope to continue doing all that, as an active member within the various domain communities.

also plan to continue parking, buying and hopefully selling domains,
while also participating in auctions, placing backorders, renewing and even dropping some.

I believe that such contributions, when made in part or whole, by each individual participant, adds to the evolving cycle within the world of domaining.

that's what I've been giving to domaining, and have truly been blessed, for what it has given back!

imo...

Some wisdom right there:

b3RCb1Y2RTJib29ocmk1NmY4dWEuanBn.jpg

Let's keep lifting folks up.

For starters, we can teach a man to fish.

Also, if you are dropping domains at registrars like Godaddy, we'll make it super easy to pay it forward. You can follow the progress at NameLiquidate.com. Don't drop. Liquidate.

Tired of lawlessness? Tired of homeless people? There is a solution and we don't need socialism or Marxism to get there. We need compassion and philanthropy. We need to make the pie bigger.

Hi @Rob Monster

All the best with this new initiative.

Here are some questions, to get some clarity on this project

1. What is the main purpose / goal of this project ?
  • What is mispriced domains ?
  • Is it for domain discovery - to build a unified platform for everyone to see all dropping, auctions, close-outs across all marketplaces and registrars ?
  • Is it something on lines of expired-domains.net + curated
  • Is it collaborative domain discovery ? experts compiling lists of domain investment opportunities ?

2. What are the main use cases of this project.
  • User discovers domain - bids or registers it
  • Or group of domainers, invest together in domains, etc ?
  • Domain asset management ?
  • Sales Leads, tips, opportunities to actually sell and get some ROI on investments .
3. Would be actually cool to create a platform for flipping of domains between investors with a name like NameInvestors. There seems to be a huge gap between reseller pricing and end-user pricing. Some domainers are good at discovery and some good at sales & shooting the moon. May be there can be a platform where experienced domainers can help investors get a good sale for their investments.

Thanks @Leopard.

DomainGraduate.com, NameInvestors.com, NameBrokers.com. NameLiquidate.com are all live now. These were all developed during Q4 2019 and are staffed with capable project leaders. They are examples of innovations designed to make the pie bigger. Let me explain:

  • DomainGraduate.com: It is a free course, that anyone can get to learn how to be a domain investor. This project is being discussed at length here. It is already making some impact as awareness growth, and as translations come online.
  • NameInvestors.com: It is a free online tool for finding domains, but more than that it is part of an operating system strategy that creates and industry dashboard where widgets can be designed and deployed for integration into any partner solution
  • NameBrokers.com: Many domain sellers get inquiries but are discriminated against, e.g. because they are a Nigerian, Pakistani, etc. We can help them close deals for a low commission rate while coaching them on to be effective sellers of domains and establish trust as seller.
  • NameLiquidate.com: Many domainers let their domains expire at places like Godaddy. It is silly to get nothing for a domain when you can get something. We are developing a way to make it very easy for buyers and selling to extract liquidation value rather than losing that value to monopolists.
The point of this post was not so much to discuss any particular Epik-sponsored project.

The point of this post was to seriously understand who here at NamePros is serious about making the pie bigger by empowering people.

Specific to your questions about NameInvestors.com, I will defer to @Gube who is actively developing and listening to market feedback along with @Pat8 and @Furquah and many others from @epik.

For example, from this morning internal chat:

upload_2019-12-26_6-24-0.png

Long story short:

1. I am illustrating the power of co-creating abundance.

2. I am encouraging the community to overcome scarcity mindset.

When I talk about "Making the pie bigger", you can be sure it is not idle talk.

I am not avoiding your questions. I just don't want to take us down a rabbit hole focused on one project. This thread is about the COMMUNITY. What are WE doing to make the pie bigger for EVERYONE?

@Gube will share developer specs soon with sample code. There is also a single sign on framework based on KeyCloak and then a Payments API. Stay tuned.
Exact, The developers panel is coming
I will set up example widgets such as domain lists directly hosted on NameInvestors with auto-updating status, but it will also be possible to create widgets from scratch hosted elsewhere and we can imagine something custom -- Anything is possible :)

Talking of NameInvestors, a new widget is online
upload_2019-12-26_17-15-36.png

Previously on Dropelf, it was possible to monitor TW accounts, It's now back online on NameInvestors
And without any limitations (except being logged-in)

More coming soon, the next widget could be helpful to people watching the drops ;)

I consider myself to be more of an intellectual and philosopher than a coder or programmer and as such I might be able to come up with abstract thoughts that might set the tone or light the way towards new concepts and ideas that perhaps didn't exist before. In the domain Industry (or the World at large) we need both the people who can come up with new ideas and concepts and those who can bring those new ideas and concepts to life. That's why Epik and Namepros can play such vital part in bringing everyone together so that the end result can help raise all ships.

The UI is going to be slick:

upload_2019-12-25_13-55-6.png

The + sign in the lower right shows the widget library.

You then drag and drop your widgets to where you like.

Anyone can build these widgets.

The folks that publish available name lists can have their own branded widgets for free.

...for a few minutes.

All free tools are great. I'm not that impressed by the so-called bigger services. Things get better with competetiveness, not cornering the market and not changing anything.

Some old-timers are not going to be too pleased with me. Some of them just want:

Fortunately, the more enlightened ones will realize that it is just fine if some of that mispriced inventory falls into the hands of a newbie domainer who can then get a quick win.

If it can be free, it will be free.

Cool @Rob Monster

Yeah the questions were for reflection purpose and seeing where this is fitting in the entire Epik spectrum. It sure can evolve over time.

All your services are going to be complimentary to each other and in turn will be empowering for the domaining community. I see great potential in them.

Excited we are going to witness an "Epic" surge of opportunities for domainers. Will hang around and see what i can contribute over time .

I agree.

NameLiquidate.com is a simple idea. Yet the implication of it is highly disruptive to the status quo of registrars milking the expiry stream and/or allocating it to their closest friends and allies.

See this:

By the grace of God, we are in the upper right.

Moreover, we don't care who makes money or who takes credit.

This chart need a 3rd dimension: PHILANTHROPY.

Guess who you will find there.

I been feeling positive about NameLiquidate as a game changer right from the time you brought it up here. Both as donations for eRise as well us cashing in on your expiring domains. I feel its going to be a good market for investors to liquidate some domains as well as pick up quality domains before the drop catch frenzy. Looking forward to this one as well along with other Epik initiatives.

What about the rest of us. :xf.frown:

$199 for a backorder? You have got to be kidding! Who's empowering who here? Who is getting the gift?
Can you PM me your email (used on Epik) ?
We will give you the NP pricing, 8.49$ to backorder a .com domain first come first served no auction :)

Gube

Thanks for the offer. However, it seems more than a little disingenuous to claim to be in the "spirit of the season" while price gouging the average joe then giving over 90% discount to nP members. What if someone who paid the full amount later discovers nP?
This person would have the NP pricing starting from the time he would have asked.
It's an offer made to members and not a priviledge.. but we still like to empower people in the digital world, and anyone can get in touch with us to discuss of his pricing.

Have you seen NameInvestors yet?

Just published a new widget again :)

On a separate note, regarding that first dropped domain bought, WindowsXP definitely needs to be retired, but I'm sure there are still millions running it and need a forum to talk about it :)

Hi @Rob Monster how does one avail themselves of the $8.49 backorder? Everything on Epik.com is $199 for me. Thanks much for your help.

Looks like you are new here.

There is a NP pricing program at Epik:

- Domains at cost
- First come first serve Backorders at cost
- Free escrow . Details here.

Just PM us your Epik account email and we'll set you up.

That's clever.

The logo there was inherited from Troy Rushton. We'll give the branding another look!

More upgrades coming.

Appreciate the feedback in the meantime!
