Smoking in Films?

Here in Australia, the anti-smoking groups are promoting the idea of classifying movies with smoking R rated (18+ years only). This is based on rumours that businesses are paying Hollywood to include smoking in their movies.

In India, Bollywood movies are restricted from having smoking at all.

Is it me, or does this sound a bit extreme?

It's dumb... people will smoke on the street. If they glamorize smoking, then maybe. Who smokes in movies? 90% of the time, it's the "bad guy."

yes you are right, it's always the bad guy that smokes, but then perhaps people on street wants to be the bad guy, so they try smoking! though in india we have strong smoking rules, so the bad guys are already getting a :kickass:

Used to be that movies showing drug use got an automatic X rating back in the day..

What strikes me as funny is they can show a person being disemboweled or beheaded, yet sex or nudity in movies is still pretty much taboo.. violence is the new porn, I guess.
