Skype, any catch?

I tried ot Skype today, but it seems too good to be true. What's the catch? Can we make long distance calls free any time? Seems like its working so far. If I understand right, they'll start charging at the end of the year?

Yer if you live in the usa you can make calls via skype to a phone (in the usa) for free. It is part of a promo thingy to get more people to use skype.

They didn't actually say they'll start charging at the end of the yer, but its kinda implied.

They basically said its free until the end of the year and then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. But I have a strong feeling it won't be free.

Its really nice right now though, free phone calls anywhere! :tu:

I still have to pay to call Germany or the UK. I found out that much.

On skype;
It costs 1.2p/minute for a call to a UK landline
It costs 14.4p/minute for a call to a UK mobile phone
It costs 3p/minute for a call to a germany landline

On landline
It costs 2p/minute for a call to a UK landline
It costs 20p/minute for a call to a UK mobile phone
It costs 5p/minute for a call to a germany landline

On mobile
It costs 5p/minute for a call to a UK landline
It costs 5p/minute for a call to a UK mobile phone (same network)
It costs up to 50p/minute for a call to a UK mobile phone (different network)
It costs god knows how much for a call to a germany landline

It is not much cheaper, but it is cheaper.

It's free to any US or Canadian phone til the end of the year... I have it, including a SkypeIn number ($3 months for around $12 with free voicemail included), and like it so far tho I only use it occasionally.
