When a hosting company advertise:
- Unlimited Hosting Space
- Unlimited Domains
- Unlimited Site Bandwidth

Means that you could store there as many different sites as you want. Is that so?

In theory, yes.

dmi is right, with an emphasis on theory.

The truth of the matter is that these things don't exist. Bandwidth costs and disk space is limited; go ask your local computer store for an unlimited hard drive. ;)

The wager is that you'll never use a whole lot of space or bandwidth, and it's one that favors the host.

They advertise that, but you'll still get kicked off if you use too much. Typically when people lose their accounts in shared web hosting, it's not because they use too much space or bandwidth but because their scripts take up too many CPU resources.

Just close the page with these statements and forget.

Nothing like 'unlimited' is there as everybody said. The providers who offers unlimited things have certain definitions for that. They will limit you by certain restrictions on cpu and ram usage. That is how they convert unlimited to limited.

Yep. Unlimited does not always mean unlimited when it comes to hosting. Like CrazyTech said, you cannot get a hard drive with unlimited space. The host is just assuming you wont use up all their space. Also, like another member said, even though there are no space restrictions, there may be restrictions on something else. Ram and cpu is one of them. But what hasn't been mentioned is that some hosts will restrict you on how many files you have. So you might have unlimited space, but you can only have x amount of files on your account. Many of these limitations are hiding in the fine print of the terms of service agreement. Try checking there for a better explanation of what restrictions are being placed on your account.

In any case your requirements still limited and you can operate those digits.

Yeah, I know that "unlimited" isn't an absolute term. But for those who are running multiple sites (with no special requirements on bandwidth and storage) it's better get one single account on hostgator/dremahost/hostmonter affordable company and put all the sites together instead of subscribe individual accounts per site. This is my main question: one account = "unlimited" sites?

@JamesIsCool: Thanks for the elucidative article.

Oh of course. If the web hosting account says that it allows unlimited sites or domains, then yes. You should be able to host multiple sites on one hosting account. Many people do that as long as they are not huge sites. This is usually good for personal web blogs and several small sites. :)

Different kind of website require different kind of hosting. If anybody says that one or two hosts are the best in the world, don't believe them. If you are having problem choosing a web hosting to use, I suggest you do the following:

1. Go to the webhost review sites such as webhostingjury, hostingsthatuck.com or webhostinggeeks and list down about 3 to 5 common top hosting companies.

2. Next, for each web hosting X, do a โ€œX sucksโ€ search on Google. Read some complaints and see if you may encounter the same problems like them. Some of the complaints may relate to certain groups of users only such as VPS, dedicated server users or resellers. So you may not be affected if you are not from these categories. You also do this to remove the web hosts who paid to get on top of some review sites.

3. Eliminate those hostings you feel uncomfortable with, and look for the best bargain hosting for your money and requirements.

If you need a shopping, most of them will have somekind of one-click install for one of the popular shopping cart applications. You can start with Justhost, Fatcow and Bluehost in your research.

Good luck.

"There is no such thing as a free lunch" ... "You get what you pay for"

Both of the above are true in the web hosting world. Assess your requirements and find the server solution that best fits your needs (disk space, bandwidth, email, hand-holding, etc.).

gck

That is correctly said. But that is not good idea to subscribe under such features.

Although they written with "unlimited" specifiactions, but all the hosting company have their own policy.. So i suggest you look through the terms and conditions carefully before signing up the service.

And also you can tried to chat with them to make sure the quality of the supports and services that they provided.

Unlimited always has limits, caused first of all by the system resources. The more you host, the slower it loads.

Yes, i totally agree with you.

Although they provide unlimited bandwidth and space, but you still in shared hosting plan.

So if you host more website, you will have the potential to overuse the system resources.
