Simple ajax showing content script

i just want a very simple script that refreshed the page content upon visiter'z demand
i just want to learn ajax from it
i want it for example like
having a mysql database of jokes and site surfer will view one after the other with simple ajax help

can some one show me a script that would do that or do me a simple one

You should take a look at Bulletproof Ajax. It is a great book, and got me into Ajax easily.
