Not everything needs a thread but am sure we would all like to use a general shoutbox

A little thing that just make this the most friendly place around

I know there is a chat but not many peeps go in there

plain simple messages

I think its a bad idea. People will flood it and spam it.

its only a shoutbox what harm could it do no NP's involved

Just think it's a great way of people making one off comments without making a whole thread of it

Not a fan of them but i know some sites place them at bottom of forum to keep it away from main look of site.

some sites have them at the top of the page

I dunno maybe this site would rather remain kinda cold

with things like this you start to get a community saying moring, night and happy birthday to fellow members

I dont like them on sites where business is taking place - They are very distracting and if you dont monitor them very well , you can have all sorts of stuff posted on your site in no time. We have enough to watch between the Forums and Chat as it is
Just wouldn't seem very professional to me I guess.

My point reason i said some put it at the bottom im sure theres a search engine or webmaster forum that does that but yes they do get spammed often.

I don't really think we need one, possibly another room in the chat but that is not a problem.

I think a shoutbox can be useful and fun on some forums, but as Mark said, not on a business forum. If you want to have a real time conversation, then you can go in the chat room. The other issue, is often with a shoutbox, the same things are posted over and over again in there, when if a thread was created instead, it would only have to be posted once.

They look cool on some sites - but as I said ... not very professional looking

I dont like the idea, and then i like the idea. The only way to make it actually work, and not get spammed is to pay 10np$ per message or something like that. Other than that, adult websites will use it, to spam there links, kids will start to use it... the only way to stop something like that is to charge to use it, or be a member of the forum for a certian amount of time... Or have good rep... or maybe TR... And yets its not professional, more bloggish to me.

Thats why i dont goto the chat, its only active around 1am my time... too late for me ^^

There's a Vbulletin modification for this... However, I don't think it would be too appropriate for this site, and I agree spamming could be a problem.

It would be a nice feature to have, but by no means is it neccassary in my opinion.
