From what I understand, .co.in is an Indian Company

.in is more generic - works as a preposition too

In any case, you'll find premium lll.co.in lying around everywhere...whereas premium lll.in is usually gone in under 10 seconds of it dropping (none left to register).

Same for other ccTLDs. However, ccTLDs are currently getting promoted better than 2nd level ccTLDs. And just look around we can find some discusion about 2nd level ccTLDs elemination, especially when we want to associate with a trademark.

About .co.in and .in, it is more easy to find a .co.in available than .in. This says everything about their trends.

In my country, we have yahoo.com.vn, google.com.vn microsoft.com.vn because they are old. The newest one I realized is ebay, it is EBAY.VN, paypal has reserved PAYPAL.VN and microsofts want ARCADE.VN

Thanks for the info shshas. Do you think that these companies in India that own the .co.in domain will also want to own the .in domain so that they dont loose out on leads for their business?
